Last week, students from around the world came together at EF New York for a Town Hall with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchanges Shannon Sprenger.

With hundreds of students from more than 40 countries living and learning English together on our Tarrytown campus, the conversation focused on international education, cultural exchange and the relationships that are built when we experience another culture firsthand.

Our students led the conversation, sharing their own stories and asking questions about studying abroad, leadership, cultural exchange and even how international sporting events like the World Cup and LA28 can bring people together.

DAS Sprenger shared a lesson from her own experience studying abroad in Morocco:
“You can read about other cultures. You can study the language in a classroom, but there is nothing like being on the ground and interacting with people.”

For more than 60 years, EF’s mission has been opening the world through education. We’re grateful to the U.S. Department of State and its Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for joining our students and community for such a meaningful conversation.

Because the world is better when people try to understand one another.

In 2016, Stephany and Basil met in EF New York. From then they knew they were meant for each other 💍🤍. Stephany and Basil got married in Bali on August 15th, 2026. Their officiant was Jessica, a friend they also met here at EF🥲🫂! They did long distance from Switzerland and Sweden for 4 years, and decided to tie the knot 6 years later! Congratulations to Stephany and Basil on their beautiful marriage, we hope those who find love on our campus are inspired by their beautiful story🩷! #2016

We are so proud of you all and excited to see what the future has in store for you, this is just the beginning of many accomplishments 🩷!
