"Enter Here to Be and Find a Friend" In 1899, Mrs. Hackley Hall, as Mrs. Hackley’s mansion had become known, was quickly outgrown by the needs of the new school.

Caleb Brewster Hackley, a leading supporter of the Unitarian movement, decided to give her summer mansion in Tarrytown, New York, for the purpose of creating a college preparatory boarding school for boys. The school would welcome students of diverse religious, economic, ethnic and national origin within an ethos shaped by the school's Latin motto, Iuncti Iuvamus, which we translate as, "United, We Help One Another." Mrs. Hackley funded the purchase of a beautiful estate not far from Hackley Hall, which provided the grounds for the Hackley School that we know today. Construction began, and the first new buildings were in use by 1902. Over the main entrance was engraved the phrase that has represented the Hackley spirit for over a century -- “Enter Here To Be And Find A Friend.”

It’s the 100th anniversary of the Hackley–Riverdale football rivalry! Join us on Saturday, October 17, at 3 p.m. to cheer on the Hornets and celebrate a century of competition.

We’re taking a trip back to 1950 with this gem from the Hackley Archives! That year, the Hornets defeated Riverdale and went on to finish the season undefeated. Here’s to 100 years of rivalry, tradition, and Hornet pride.

Turner Classic Movies host and film expert Dave Karger ’91 recently released his new book, “50 Movie Nights: Contemporary Stars on Their Favorite Classic Films.” On Sunday, September 27 at 5:00 p.m., Dave will be at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, NY for a screening of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” one of the films featured in his book. Today, we pause to honor and remember all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the families, friends, and communities forever changed by that day. This memorial plaque and flag, dedicated by the Class of 1951, serve as a lasting reminder on our campus that their lives and legacies will not be forgotten.
