🌱 CTE in Action at the Upper Coastal Plains Research Station! 🚜

We’re proud to highlight two SouthWest Edgecombe High School students who have been gaining valuable, hands-on experience through a paid internship at the Upper Coastal Plains Research Station!

Both studentd are putting their classroom learning to work in a real-world environment. Since June, they have been assisting with landscaping, equipment operation, and other agricultural responsibilities while developing essential employability skills.

A special thank you to James Cappelletti and Josh O'Neil of STEP for helping make the connection and to the Upper Coastal Plains Research Station for investing in our students and providing meaningful work-based learning opportunities.

This is what CTE is all about: connecting education, careers, and the community! We look forward to creating even more internship opportunities for ECPS students. 💼🌱

Day 2 of our CTE Back-to-School Push brought us to Tarboro High School! The CTE team is already setting the tone for an AMAZING year! 💜💛

From preparing classrooms and creating welcoming learning spaces to getting technology and instructional materials ready, our teachers and Career Development Coordinator are putting in the work BEFORE students even walk through the door!👏🏽📚💻

From creating the perfect recipe to serving the final scoop, the frozen dessert industry connects to many Career & Technical Education pathways:

We're excited to see Brandon Brooks, Computer Science Teacher at SouthWest Edgecombe partnering with the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) – Morganton through Teamship College Board, an innovative program that gives students the opportunity to solve authentic business challenges while building the skills employers value most.
Teamship goes beyond the traditional internship by placing students on diverse teams where they collaborate, think critically, communicate effectively, and present real solutions to real organizations. These experiences prepare students for college, careers, and the ever-changing workforce.

🌟From Job Shadow to Summer Intern!🌟

While a Health Science student Tarboro High School, Nigeria Hyman expressed a desire to be a nurse. Our Workbased Learning Coordinator, Reggie Bess was able to set up a job shadowing/internship at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital. Today, as a Golden LEAF Scholar at East Carolina University, she's back at ECU Health as a summer intern, gaining hands-on experience and exploring even more opportunities in healthcare.

This is exactly what Career & Technical Education is all about introducing students to careers, opening doors, and helping them discover their future. We are so proud of you, Nigeria!
