Aikido Taos Kihon Dojo

Aikido Taos Kihon Dojo Craig Dunn has taught aikido in Taos to students of all ages for over 40 years, and holds the rank of 5th dan. He first studied aikido in Osaka, Japan.

Taos Kihon Dojo is a member of the Aikido Doshinokai Association. Craig Dunn first studied aikido while living and working in Osaka, Japan. He has taught aikido to both adults and children in Taos for over 30 years.

Instructors

Jerome Buenviaje, 6th Dan
Dojo-cho at Takemusu Aikido New Mexico
He started his training in 1989 and trained under Mar De Leon Sensei, Wolfgang Baumgartner
Sensei, and Patricia Hendricks Shihan. Since 2011, he has traveled annually to Iwama, Japan
and trained under Hitohira Saito Sensei and Yasuhiro Saito Sensei. He also trains and teaches
Balintawak Arnis, a Filipino Martial Art, under GM Bobby Taboada.

Craig Dunn, 5th Dan
Dojo-cho Aikido Taos Kihon Dojo
Craig Sensei began his training in San Francisco in 1978. Soon after he relocated to Osaka,
Japan and became an uchi deshi of Steven Seagal Sensei. In 1982, Seagal Sensei relocated to Taos, New Mexico (with Dunn). One year later, Seagal Sensei relocated to Los Angeles. Dunn
Sensei has been the Dojo Cho of Taos Kihon Dojo since 1983, having also been trained by T.
Dobson, D. Abbott, K. Chiba, I. Shibata, and H. Matsuoka.

Fred Phillips, 6th Dan
Fred Sensei has trained since 1973, under Senseis Koichi Tohei, Rod Kobayashi, Fumio Toyoda, and Sun Shìqiáng. He has taught aikido classes in Holland, Brazil, Chile, Taiwan, Korea, Malta, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, and most recently in China. He is now co-dojocho at
Albuquerque Iwama Aikido.

Damon Apodaca, 7th Dan, Shihan
Damon Sensei started training in 1974 under M. Nakazono. Has trained for 52 years under K.
Chiba, M Saito, F. Toyota and Y. Yamada. Full time professional teacher for over 35 years. He is
Dojo-cho of Santa Fe Budokan.

Kim Peuser, 7th Dan, Shihan
Kim Sensei began training in Oakland, CA in 1974 and attended Saito Morihiro Sensei’s first
seminars in the US. He studied in Iwama with Saito Sensei for over a year, including 6 months as Uchi-deshi. He was Dojo-cho in Oakland for several years and re-located to Santa Fe 3 years ago. He is a founding member of the Takemusu Aikido Association and teaches at seminars in
the US and in Europe.

There is no fee for this seminar, however a small donation ($5-10) is asked to help pay for food
and drink provided after class.

Please let dojocho at Santa Fe Budokan know for sure if you are planning to attend. The dojo is
small, and we need a head count for food.

Memorial Day weekend is nearly upon us, and summer isn’t far behind! This weekend, the dojo will be closed and our Saturday and Monday classes are cancelled in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

To paraphrase Kermit the Frog, there’s only nine more sleeps ‘til Christmas Day!

Our last classes for December will be held on Monday, December 22. The dojo will then be CLOSED for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, reopening on Saturday, January 3.
