Dr. Jenny Kokai, director of USF’s School of Theatre and Dance, is a contributor to Enveloping Worlds: Toward a Discourse of Immersive Performance, edited by E. B. Hunter and Scott Magelssen, which received the Association for Theatre in Higher Education’s (ATHE) 2026 Edited Works Award. Kokai’s essay, “Why Be a Bad Guy? Immersive Performance and Transgression at the Disney Theme Park,” co-written with Tom Robson, was specifically highlighted in the award citation for the volume’s range of topics.

The School of Music in the USF College of Design, Art & Performance is grateful for the constant support of Betty Castor, former president of the University of South Florida. During her presidency, Castor insisted that if we were going to have a football team, we must have a marching band and thus the Herd of Thunder was established, an ensemble her late husband, Sam Bell, fondly called “Betty’s Band.”

A longtime supporter of music education, Castor continues to support USF's music camps through her philanthropy. Each summer, hundreds of middle and high school students come to campus to develop their skills, build friendships, and deepen their love of music.
