🚨 THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET OF THE WWBA TOURNAMENT 🚨

Figuring out which summer tournaments actually provide a real return on investment is a constant battle. For everyone following us here at DIY Recruit, a recent breakdown of Perfect Game’s 17U WWBA Championship just dropped some massive truth bombs that every baseball parent needs to hear.

Before you write a massive check to send your player to Atlanta, you have to understand how the "mega-programs" operate. Some of the biggest travel organizations bring up to 15 different teams to this single event.

Here is the harsh reality of how it plays out:

🔥 The Marquee Teams Get the Spotlight: The top-tier teams from these programs are absolutely loaded, featuring anywhere from 15 to 23 Division 1 commits on a single roster. Because of this, they get preferential scheduling at the main East Cobb complex, playing right in front of hundreds of college coaches.

🔥 The Secondary Teams Get Ghosted: If you aren't on that top squad, you are likely playing on a random high school field two to three hours away in the middle of nowhere. It's a tough pill to swallow, but several nationally recognized mega-programs literally had teams go 0-5 for the week.

🔥 Coaches Are Guarding Their Commits: College recruiters aren't necessarily wandering the backfields looking to discover a hidden gem. They are primarily there to babysit their current commits (and evaluate if they are still progressing) or to flip committed players from mid-majors over to Power 4 schools.

If you go to this tournament expecting magical exposure just because of the brand name, you might not see a single college coach all week. Unless you have an absolute stud playing on a stud team with at least 8 D1 commits—like the unranked Stacked Baseball squad out of California that shocked everyone and won it all—save your money.

Focus on targeted camps, keep grinding, and be realistic about where your team actually stands on the food chain!

If your 2026 kid is still uncommitted, the clock is ticking, but the window isn't closed. There are specific camps happening over the next four weeks packed with JUCO, NAIA, and D2 coaches actively hunting for late pickups.

If I were an unsigned 2026 right now, I’d target the events listed below. But here is the golden rule: you do not just show up hoping to be discovered. You get the coach attendee list, you email them your verified metrics and a clean video three days before the camp, and you drop it in their Twitter DMs. Tell them your jersey number and what field you'll be on. Be the guy they showed up to see. Let's get to work.

August 1st is right around the corner. If you have a rising high school junior, this is the date NCAA Division 1 baseball coaches can finally hit reply and contact players directly.

Right now, expensive recruiting agencies are using this date to manufacture panic. They want you to think that if you don't hand over $5,000 immediately, your kid will be left behind. It’s a complete racket. College coaches hit delete on agency bot-spam...they want to hear directly from the player.

You don't need a massive contract to win this window. You just need a realistic target list based on truthful talent and an actual GPA. Don't fall into the "D1 or bust" trap. Expand your horizons to D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO programs where players can actually develop instead of riding a bench.

Get your package together: a clean 60-second highlight video, verified metrics, and a GPA. And do not wait until August 1st to start. Coaches can open and read your emails right now...they just can't reply yet. Have your son email them weekly to stay top of mind. When the calendar flips to August 1st, you want his name to be the very first one they reach out to.

If coaches aren't replying to your emails right away, don't panic. It is completely normal and almost every player goes through it at some point.

There are a lot of agencies out there who will try to use this quiet period to scare you. They’ll tell you that you need to pay them thousands of dollars to evaluate your skills and "open doors" for you.

Let’s kill that myth right now. The doors aren't locked. You already have the keys. You don't need a middleman to get you in front of college coaches, because coaches actually prefer hearing directly from the player. It shows maturity and initiative.

All you need is a basic Gmail account, a clear 60-second video of your best reps, and the willingness to do the work yourself. Sit down at the kitchen table, expand your target list past your own backyard, and start sending direct emails. Take ownership of your own journey and create your own opportunities.

Keep your money for actual college tuition and stop waiting for someone else to open the door. Let's get to work.

There are several “apps” out there but they ALWAYS lack the most important thing…the ability to send an email from YOUR Son’s email inbox. Coaches HATE seeing emails from services or apps. It doesn’t allow them to keep the same threads to reply to. PLUS, they will always start charging $$, most likely in the way of a monthly subscription. DIY Recruit will ALWAYS be free if a student athlete reaches out.
