We are so proud of Quenisha and all of the first graduates of The Medical Academy!
As we draw closer to graduation, we will highlight one senior each day who has overcome great obstacles to succeed. Thank you to these extraordinary students for allowing us to share your stories. 🎓
Quenisha Huggins is a graduating senior from The Medical Academy at D.W. Waters.
Quenisha’s family moved from the Caribbean to the U.S. in search of better educational opportunities. But the transition here presented some new challenges and required a lot of adjustment, especially on the part of the children.
To make matters even more complicated for Quenisha, she also faced significant personal challenges, including maintaining a relationship with her father, who was suffering from mental health concerns.
Because of his struggles, Quenisha and her family made the difficult decision to live separately from him, prioritizing their emotional and mental well-being, while continuing to support him from afar. Although she is saddened she cannot be closer to her father, she understands sometimes it is necessary to step back in order to allow someone to receive the help they need.
It’s those experiences that have inspired Quenisha to pursue a career in healthcare. She hopes to become a nurse practitioner and make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

The Recycled the Runway fashion show, hosted by our Environmental Science students, was a highlight of Teacher Appreciation Week. The students showcased their ingenuity in reducing, reusing, and recycling by creating stunning outfits from recycled materials. Thank you to Ms. Smith for her dedication to organizing this event, which concluded with an energetic dance party.

Today was an exceptional day with our seniors at Disney!! We have only three weeks remaining with this group and are looking forward to celebrating the first graduating class of The Medical Academy at DW Waters!

The School Board Recognition meeting proved to be a amazing evening for The Medical Academy, with the Black History Brain Bowl team earning recognition for their impressive top 3 finish in the February competition, and Principal Woods being honored with the Principals in Practice Family & Community Engagement Award.
