From one of my interns recently issued with her LCSW... I am extremely proud of her and her accomplishment!!!

" I've been in supervision with Florence since 2020 up until the moment I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker this July of 2024. She's consistent, reliable, easy to talk to, experienced, and invested in her registered interns and clients. I appreciate her bringing outside specialized mental health professionals to help expand my knowledge base. I also value her telling various stories of past cases from eclectic background as it has improved my capacity to interact and understand my patients. I believe the numerous practice tests taken, strategies, and methods taught by Florence have been a significant contribution to passing the Licensure Exam. I've been able to expand my social network because of the group activities/session she so well orchestrated. I greatly appreciate the patience and dedication she displayed towards me as an individual and supporting me through difficult work experiences.

Thank you Flo. God Bless. "

Congratulation to both my intern; Sydney Nadeau; and Individual Test Prep student; Lauren Sentovitch; for passing their National Clinical Exam for Licensure.

Not only did they pass on their first attempt, they both exceeded the minimum score required for passing, and under the allotted exam time!

It has been both a privilege and an honor to have been a small part of their professional growth.

On Friday April 3, 2020, the Florida Chapter 491 Board conducted an Emergency Meeting in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and it’s effect on Florida’s Registered Clinical Social Work Interns. In response the Board established an emergency rule FAC 64B4ER20-24. Please refer to Page 2 for the rule.

Key points:

• (1)(a): The registered intern has an established qualified supervisor and maintains the same qualified supervisor for the duration of this rule
• (1)(b): The registered intern has a written telehealth protocol and safety plan in place with their current qualified supervisor which includes the provision that the qualified supervisor must be readily available during the electronic therapy session.

As your clinical supervisor, I am always available to you, regardless of this rule. Yet if you have an operational supervisor at your place of employment, that individual should be the source for your direction as they and the company that you both work for have policies and operating procedures that govern the current COVID-19 situation.

In summary, the Board redefined intern’s clinical “face-to-face psychotherapy” to include “face-to-face electronic methods, not including telephone only communications”, and that these hours can be included for internship hours for the duration of this rule.

As we wind down 2018, and prepare for 2019, I reflect on the professional milestone achieved by both my intern and Test Prep student.

Congratulations to my former intern Ka'Dira Carey, and former ASWB Test Prep student Nicole Wheeler on achieving their LCSW. Well deserved opening a world with endless professional possibilities.

In closing 2018, for those MSW students and graduates undecided on pursuing professional licensure, ask yourself, "What can you NOT do with an LCSW"?

How Florida Social Work Licensure Compares to Other States | Florida State University 03/09/2017

Very interesting article about the similarities and differences regarding licensure requirements between Southern and Northern states.

For example, North Carolina requires one hour of supervision for every 30 hours of clinical contact, while Virginia requires one hour per 40 hours of direct service.

Makes you wonder, for Florida, if our one hour, for every 15 hours is enough?
