Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - FADP

Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - FADP FADP is a Florida-based, state-wide organization working together to end the death penalty in Florida.

Using a coordinated, strategic, and empowerment-oriented approach, FADP works to build and mobilize public and political support for abolition. FADP’s network includes dozens of state and local groups and thousands of individual Floridians, including murder victims' family members and other survivors of violent crime, law enforcement professionals, families of the incarcerated, and death row exone

rees. Our short-term objectives include reducing death sentences, opposing executions, and changing the statewide conversation about the death penalty by highlighting the tremendous support for abolition. FADP’s current legislative focus is legislation that would exempt capital defendants from the death penalty if at the time of the crime they had a serious mental illness.

Gov. DeSantis has signed a death warrant William Lee Thompson, setting his ex*****on for October 13 at 6pm. Bill was sentenced to death for the 1976 murder of Sally Ivester in Dade county.

There are currently two ex*****ons scheduled in Florida: Curtis Beasley on September 29, and Bill Thompson on October 13. If carried out, they will be the 16th and 17th ex*****ons in the state this year.

We will have more information next week. For now, please take a moment to sign the petition for Mr. Thompson here: bit.ly/SpareThompson

Tonight we stood vigil with Floridians in opposition to the ex*****on of Daniel Conahan, a Navy veteran who was convicted for the 1996 murder of Richard Montgomery. Danny maintained his innocence for more than three decades and was actively seeking DNA testing to support his claim when the Governor abruptly signed his death warrant last month.

We remember Richard Montgomery. His life mattered, and his murder caused immeasurable pain to the people who knew and loved him.

In a state that has gotten it wrong more often than any other, there is no excuse for executing a person while forensic testing remains available. Florida had time to seek the truth. Instead, it chose to run out the clock.

We remain committed to working in coalition towards the abolition of the death penalty in Florida and across the country.
