Mallet Rock is a high-energy work for Orff instruments and percussion, and provides opportunities for soloing and incorporating optional modern band instruments. Mallet Rock is simple in design, utilizing the same syncopated rhythm. The mallet instrument parts for each section is only two measures in length, making Mallet Rock both teachable by the teacher and reachable by the student. Whether or not you have a modern band, Mallet Rock is great fun, and your students will have a blast learning it. It's a Sunny Day is an original rhythm poem and song, written for younger students and is a great way to begin class. Use it only as a greeting song or icebreaker, or teach the instrument parts to extend its applications and deepen the learning. It's Tuesday! Do you know what that means? It's Taco Tuesday! Remembering the Mexican marimba band music I used to play in college, I composed this piece for Orff Instruments and unpitched percussion. A flexible and accessible work for your students that may induce a craving for Mexican food (nothing wrong with that!). I premiered this with the 2026 Pasco All-County Honors Orff Ensemble. The students had a blast playing it and the audience loved it. A big “Thank You” to Jean-René Gosselin for his music and video production talents! See link in comments for the music. This past week, I was contacted out of the blue by a teacher I’ve never met who shared that he created a video of my arrangement of Oye Como Va for Orff instruments and percussion. I was humbled and completely knocked out by the quality. Check it out. The arrangement is available from Hal Leonard on the Sheet Music plus and Sheet Music direct websites.
