Hi everyone! Here is an event from Chess Club at USF with Franklin He where I will be helping to host. Hope you can make it! In the past these events have had 30+ people.

Hey everyone!

The Chess Club at USF is hosting a USCF-rated Quad Tournament on Thursday, September 10 at the MSC Food Court!

The tournament will run from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, but you must arrive by 6:45 PM for roll call and pairings. If you arrive late, you may not be able to play.

The tournament will consist of three rounds with a time control of 15 minutes with a 5-second delay (15d5).

A quad is a tournament format where players are placed into groups of four based on rating or playing strength. Each player plays everyone else in their group once, meaning everyone gets three games.

To play in the USCF-rated section, you must be 1200+ USCF or 1600+ on http://Chess.com. There will also be an unrated section following the same three-round format, so players of all levels are welcome.

Notation is optional for both sections, but it is heavily encouraged, especially if you would like to review your games afterward. Players may use a scoresheet or an approved notation device.

Between rounds, our chess officers will be available for game analysis in a separate area away from the main playing tables so active games are not disturbed.

Entry is completely free!

MSC Food Court — Marshall Student Center
4103 USF Cedar Circle
Tampa, FL 33620

Timed paid parking spots are available near the Marshall Student Center for anyone driving to the event.

Hope to see y’all there!

Group lesson tomorrow Saturday 8-22-26 10:30-11:30am, followed by two hours of free play.

"Good evening everyone! I've decided to do a change in the lesson plan. We'll be going over games from my favorite chess player of all time: José Raúl Capablanca

The games I've looked at are from "Logical Chess Move by Move Every Move Explained" by Irving Chernev. This book was recommended to me by my former chess coach Fide Master Mark Ritter. It helped me go from 1151 USCF to 1611 USCF in about a year.

Feel free to reference the games before the group lecture:

Canal vs. Capablanca Budapest 1929

Havasi vs. Capablanca Budapest 1929

And if we still have time we'll go over

Capablanca vs Villegas Buenos Aires 1914"

From our Coach Franklin He, USCF ~1700 who will be teaching the group lesson this week. See you there!
