What is Assistive Technology (AT)?

AT is any item, device, or software used to maintain or improve the independence and functioning of persons with disabilities and older adults. AT devices can be “low tech,” such as a built-up handle on a spoon to improve the ability to grasp, to “high tech,” such as computers controlled with eye gaze. AT includes the services necessary to get and use the devices, including assessment, customization, repair, and training.

Autism Awareness Month🧩

April is here, and with it, the start of what has been known as “Autism Awareness” month. This year, many are shifting to alternate terms such as “Autism Acceptance,” or even “Autism Inclusion,” to emphasize that we must move beyond just being “aware” of autism. Here at CARD-USF, what happens for some mainly during the month of April is our focus and priority year-round. EVERY month, we strive to bring awareness, acceptance and to push for inclusion for those on the autism spectrum.

For example, our Autism Friendly Business team thoughtfully consults with local businesses to ensure inclusivity for families we serve. Our dedicated consultants work tirelessly to assist individuals on the spectrum, their loved ones, and school personnel to ensure they have the resources and tools needed for success. Our community and safety team collaborates with local partners and first responders to ensure that safety for those on the spectrum is a top priority. And our Resource Team is always ready to provide personalized assistance, resources, and referral information. Year-round, CARD-USF is here to serve our constituents, their families, and our communities. Year-round, promoting autism awareness, acceptance, and full and meaningful inclusion is at the forefront of all we do.
