🕊️😢When one of your mentors passes away, and she leaves you with these gems to sit and ponder on.

1. Abandon all the rules and play your own game.

2. You embody the characteristics of the Queen archetype. Do not marry until a true King shows up. Do not jeopardize or derail your purpose by marrying wrong. Who you choose to marry is vital for where you're going, and what you're supposed to do on this earth. Always remember the King traits I taught you to look for.

3. Make no apologies for doing you because people will always have something to say. Critics are only critics when what you're offering isn't for them.

4. Shake sh*t up! Challenge the status quo and disrupt the norm.

5. Take up space, and a lot of it.

6. Be you, they'll adjust

7 Never settle for less than what you deserve in business, friendships or romantic relationships. Only you can teach people how to treat you.

8. Be intentional about everything.

9. Think about the legacy you want to leave, and let it guide how you make decisions.

10. Only engage in battles that will lead you to your desired outcomes. Anything else is a waste of energy.

11. You only get one life so stop worrying and live your life. Those kids will be fine.

❓Them: Why do you push femininity so hard?

🌸ME: So the young women who come after me know that they have options.

It's ok to be different from the masses. Currently the imagery in regards to black women is all about what we can do, how much pain we can take, how much strength we have, how independent we can be, the bundles, the eyelashes, big butts, being overly sexualized and the list goes on. Not to mention duplicatable to everyone else.

🌸I'm not knocking what any woman chooses to do. There is a demographic for that, and people outside of your communities are making billions off of that demographic. However I would like the young ladies to know that they have options on how they choose to show up in the world.

🌸When I go into the middle and high schools to speak and I see this type of display, it lets me know what the dominant imagery influence is.

🌸The mantels of Diane Carroll, Hedy Lamar, Diana Ross, Mae West, Lena, Horne, Hazel Scott, Ruby Dee, Phylicia Rashad, Shirley Lee Ralph etc... was not picked up and carried on. Somehow we lost our way. But if we want to save the young ladies coming after us, there has to be an alternate imagery option. These babies are following what they see.
