🌟This month for our participant Best of All, we are proud to celebrate Nick, a valued member of our Adult Outreach Committee and Board of Directors. 🌟
💙💛Nick takes great pride in being a shining example of what is possible for adults with Down syndrome. Through his professional career, active social life, long-term relationship, and friendships, Nick shows that a diagnosis does not define a person’s potential. He leads by example and encourages others to set high expectations for themselves.
As of late, Nick has been an incredibly loud & proud voice in the community as an advocate for himself and others with Down syndrome. Nick threw out the first pitch at a Tampa Bay Rays game and attended the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention in Orlando, where he shared his story and connected with other individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Nick has also recently been featured twice on local Tampa media. First for an Everyday Hero segment on Spectrum News highlighting his passion for mentoring peers and promoting inclusion at GiGi’s Playhouse Tampa. The segment showcased Nick helping adapt movements in our Dance program, so everyone can participate.
Then more recently, Nick joined his best friend and fellow Board Member and Adult Outreach Committee member Sam Piazza and Board member Daniel Trujillo on WFLA’s Bloom TV daytime show. They used the platform to discuss Down syndrome, dispelled misconceptions about Trisomy 21, and highlighted how individuals with Down syndrome can learn, work, build relationships, and lead fulfilling lives. Nick spoke about how GiGi’s Playhouse Tampa provides opportunities to build social, advocacy, and life skills that extend into the community and workplace. His message was simple and powerful: a diagnosis does not define us.
