“Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.” — Maria Montessori

It can be tempting to step in when we see a child struggling with a button, carrying something themselves, cleaning up a spill, or working through a challenging task.

In Montessori, we recognize that these moments are opportunities. Giving children the time and space to try for themselves helps develop perseverance, problem-solving skills, and confidence.

As we settle into the new school year, we love watching our students discover just how much they are capable of doing on their own.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Maria Montessori! 🎉🌿

Today we celebrate the remarkable woman whose vision transformed the way we understand and educate children. Dr. Montessori believed in nurturing each child’s natural curiosity, independence, and love of learning—and her philosophy continues to inspire our classrooms every day.

We are grateful to carry on her legacy by creating an environment where children are encouraged to explore, discover, grow, and become confident, capable learners.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Montessori! ❤️

During the first month of school, some of the most important learning isn’t found in a lesson or a book.

Children are learning how to care for their classroom, respect the work of others, make choices, solve problems, follow routines, and become part of their classroom community.

Taking the time to establish these skills at the beginning of the year creates a strong foundation for the months of learning, exploration, and growth ahead.

A new school year brings so many opportunities for children to practice doing things for themselves.

From carrying their belongings and putting materials away to choosing work and caring for their classroom environment, these seemingly small responsibilities are an important part of the Montessori day.

Each time a child thinks, “I can do it myself,” they are building more than independence—they are developing confidence in their own abilities that will carry into everything they learn this year.

The first few weeks of school are all about finding our rhythm. Children are learning new routines, becoming familiar with their classroom environments, reconnecting with friends, and building relationships with their teachers.

In Montessori, we understand that this adjustment looks different for every child. With consistency, patience, and encouragement, those unfamiliar first days gradually become comfortable routines—and before long, children are moving through their classrooms with growing confidence and independence.
