USF College of Public Health MPH Student Elijah Bull is participating in the International Applied Practice Experience in Quito, Ecuador, working with Universidad de San Francisco De Quito.
Elijah has been traveling around the island, checking out private properties and some public areas where people have complained about the presence of black flies. He is working to analyze the distribution of the Simulidae black fly vector and conducive environments on the island of San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands and will work to create a field report that will assess the need for a broader vector control project in the future.
“This experience has also allowed me to assist my preceptor with a dengue project he has running on the island.” - Elijah.

USF College of Public Health MPH Student, Olga Aranzabal, is participating in the International Applied Practice Experience in Lima, Peru, working with DIRIS’s strategic cancer prevention and control program. Olga is providing technical assistance and supporting community outreach efforts by creating training and educational materials for the program. Additionally, she has been working on the elaboration of a cancer prevention and education manual that health professionals could use to raise awareness about cancer among families in low-resource settings.
“It has been a valuable and rich experience, and I am so happy that I was able to attain it through my MPH concentration in Global Health Practice!” -Olga.

USF College of Public Health MPH Student, Irma Tanelus, is currently participating in the International Field Experience in Sydney, Australia, where she had the opportunity to officially present the diabetes prevention program to the Pasifika Islander Population at the Samoan Day Festival. Irma practiced health promotion by creating and designing the official banner for the PPDP. Irma has found her experience in Australia to be life-changing.
“Having the opportunity to be hands-on in a diabetes prevention program is the experience that I did not know I needed, but I am beyond happy that I did!” -Irma
