2E or Twice exceptional people are gifted AND neurodivergent, such as having Autism, Anxiety, Sensory Differences, ADHD or Dyslexia.

🦸Their strengths can sometimes mask significant support needs, making them more likely to be misunderstood, misdiagnosed or under-supported.

They may be highly capable in some areas while experiencing significant challenges in others - creating a confusing and uneven profile.

Possible signs of 2E:
➡️Advanced or intense interests
➡️Strong curiosity and sense of justice
➡️Creative problem-solving
➡️Uneven skills profile
➡️Sophisticated humour
➡️High empathy and sensitivity
➡️Sensory differences
➡️Executive functioning challenges
➡️Perfectionism/self-criticism
➡️Preferring older peers

What helps:

✅️Flexible ways to demonstrate learning
✅️Strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming support
✅️Individualised accommodations
✅️Collaboration and trusting relationships
✅️Support for regulation and mental health
✅️A multidisciplinary approach when needed

Being highly capable doesn't mean you don't need support.

2E people deserve to have their strengths AND challenges recognized🧩

Boys and girls do not develop on identical neurological timelines. On average:
🧏Boys show slower maturation in several brain systems involved in language, attention, impulse control, and emotional regulation during childhood.
🧏Boys often develop language skills later, on average.
🧏Their nervous systems can also be more vulnerable to certain developmental and environmental stressors early in life, impacting self-regulation and executive-function development.
🧏Developmental differences in boys are more often mistaken as "defiant"

🧠This explains why boys are diagnosed more often with several neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD and autism.

✋️Boys still need boundaries.

☝️They still need accountability.

🏃But they also need movement, connection, patience, emotional coaching, and adults who understand that regulation develops before it can reliably be demanded.

🚫That does NOT mean boys are weaker.

It means behavior that looks like immaturity, impulsivity, physicality, emotional overwhelm, or difficulty sitting still may sometimes reflect a developing brain that needs more support, not more shame🧩💚

💡The takeaway is not to lower expectations for boys.It is to understand the nervous system underneath the behavior.

A new study published in Scientific Reports looked at what happened when kids ages 10-14 broke up a period of sitting with just 3.5 minutes of very light movement.
The movements were simple: stretching, trunk rotations, balancing on one leg, and hand-dexterity exercises. No equipment. No gym. Nothing that couldn't be done right in a classroom.🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️🕺
After just 3.5 minutes of movement, the kids were quicker at a task that required them to focus and tune out distractions. They also reported feeling better after moving, while kids who stayed seated became less alert.
And THIS is why we keep reiterating movement as part of learning...not something that is only allowed during P.E. or recess.

The participants watched two videos: an exciting Star Wars pod-racing scene, which required very little mental effort, and a math lesson that placed much greater demands on attention and working memory.

The results were striking. Children with ADHD remained relatively still during the action-packed movie clip, but their fidgeting and movement increased noticeably during the math lesson. Researchers suggested that this movement may not simply be "restlessness," but instead a self-regulation strategy that helps some children maintain attention during cognitively demanding tasks.

The findings add to growing evidence that ADHD is more complex than simply "not being able to sit still." For many children, movement may actually play a role in supporting focus when the brain is working hardest.

Why choose ChildTestingFL?🧩
Because training matters, experience matters, volume matters. It's about recognizing nuanced behavioral traits, knowing what's concerning and not and recognizing when there's a legitimate need for supports in order to increase a student's chances of success🚀.
If a clinician isn't evaluating enough students, parents run the risk of receiving false reassurance when something could have been missed. So here's my advice, choose the most experienced evaluator you can find. Ask questions, ask how many evaluations they do per year to gain a realistic sense of their expertise.
