Harrell Center for the Study of Family Violence

The James and Jennifer Harrell Center for the Study of Family Violence is proud to partner with BayCare Health System’s Community Benefit Department to translate community data into meaningful public health research. Through BayCare’s Community Health Needs Assessment, this collaboration uses local data to better understand the health needs of Florida communities and identify opportunities to improve health among local residents.

The team’s Florida Public Health Association (FPHA) 2026 conference poster, “Adverse Childhood Experiences and Mental Health Access Disparities in Florida,” examines how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and socioeconomic factors contribute to unmet mental health needs, reinforcing the importance of data-driven, community-informed solutions.

Congratulations to this outstanding interdisciplinary team on their contribution to advancing research that informs policy, practice, and healthier communities across Florida!

🚨 When does control become exploitation? Join us for an important conversation exploring the intersection of domestic violence (DV) and human trafficking (HT) and learn how these forms of violence often overlap in ways that can be difficult to recognize.

Whether you’re a student, healthcare professional, social worker, advocate, educator, law enforcement officer, researcher, or community partner, this virtual training will provide valuable insights into identifying warning signs, understanding the dynamics of exploitation, and strengthening collaborative responses. This training is in collaboration with the Spring of Tampa Bay, the Crisis Center, & Office of Attorney General James Uthemeier.
