HCC Studio Theatre

A busy summer season of festivals wraps up in the YPAB with the Tampa Bay Theatre Festival Sept 2 and 3. Events take place not only in the YPAB Rehearsal Hall, Studio Theatre and Mainstage Theatre but also at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, PowerStories Theatre and Stageworks Theatre.

Here on the Ybor Campus the Festival will host workshops and competitions in the Rehearsal Hall while the Studio Theatre and the Mainstage Theatre will host competition in Full Length Original Plays. One of these plays, PHONOGRAPHIC MEMORIES is written by HCC theatre program alum Willie J Hannah,

Film and TV star Harry Lennix will run an acting workshop on Saturday Sept 3 in the Studio Theatre. http://www.harrylennix.com

Yesterday, Sunday August 7, was perhaps the busiest day in the history of the Hillsborough Community College Ybor Campus Performing Arts Building.

It was the closing day of two, two week long events; the Tampa International Fringe Festival and Spanish Lyric Theatre's presentation of the Tony Award Winning Musical IN THE HEIGHTS (Lin-Manuel Miranda before HAMILTON )

The Fringe Festival occupied three first floor venues; the Studio Theatre, Room 102 "The Coop" and the Rehearsal Hall with near capacity audiences in all three for a myriad of different productions from as far as away as Brazil while upstairs in the Mainstage Theatre, IN THE HEIGHTS closed out their totally SOLD OUT run with one more presentation garnering another spontaneous standing ovation after a performance that literally saw the audience dancing in their seats and clapping along with the music.

Parking was at a premium (an issue that we would like to see more often!) and excited audiences met and mingled in both the first and second floor lobbies.

And it's not over ! This coming week, Thursday August 11 through Saturday August 13 the COUNTDOWN IMPROV FESTIVAL will be occupying the Rehearsal Hall, the Studio Theatre and the Mainstage Theatre ! For more information. https://countdownimprovfestival.com
