Professor S. King Glenn, Ed. S. "Providing A Voice for the Driven!" This is to have succeeded!"
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Silver Tongued Sage

"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.

A heartwarming story from Aklan is once again circulating online, drawing attention to the generosity of a man with autism spectrum disorder who used his savings to buy school supplies for students in need.

The story dates back to August 2022 and centers on Chris Francisco, then 32 years old, from Balete, Aklan. Despite living with autism spectrum disorder and not having a regular job, Francisco saved P13,000 over three years and used the money to purchase 160 boxes of crayons for students at Calizo National High School.

Many students at the school reportedly came from low-income families and often had to rely on worn-out crayons for their schoolwork. Wanting to help, Francisco used his savings to provide new crayons to students at the start of the school year.

His aunt, Dely Dalida, said Chris would often ask for P5 after completing simple household chores such as sweeping, fetching water, and watering plants. Over time, he quietly saved the money under his bed until it reached P13,000.

Teachers who learned of his plan said they were deeply moved by the gesture. One teacher described Chris as a “special child with a special heart” after seeing his determination to help students despite his own challenges.

The story also highlighted Francisco’s love for learning. Although he was unable to complete his formal education because of difficulties associated with his condition, he continued reading and learning on his own, often spending time in school libraries.

Francisco, who lost both of his parents at a young age and later lived with relatives, said he wanted students to enjoy coloring, continue learning, and feel encouraged in their studies.

The years-old story has recently resurfaced online, with many social media users praising Francisco’s generosity and the impact of a simple act of kindness on the lives of students in his community.
