Remember that your evaluation is due ONE YEAR from the date that is on the letter you received from the county confirming your acceptance into the homeschool program. If you signed up for homeschooling in January, your eval is due in January. If you signed up in September, your eval is due in September. Some people have their date adjusted to coincide with the traditional school year. As long as that has been approved by your county liaison, you are all set. If your eval is due in June or July, be sure to make your appointment early. This is the busiest time of year for evaluators!

Now you can easily share our website with your homeschooling pals. Just click on the button at the top of each page that says, "Tell a Friend About Evaluation Station!" This will produce an email with our link already in it. All you have to do is type in your friend's email address and hit "Send"! Saaa weeeet!

My recommendation... put three dates on your calendar, one at the beginning of the year, one in the middle, and one at the end. On those dates choose a work sample from each subject area for each of your homeschooled students. (It can be from that week or that month.) Scan that sample into a file (a private blog or SkyDrive or a dropbox will do.) That will make things SO much easier when it comes time to submit that portfolio for your yearly evaluation. A portfolio is the BEST indicator of your child's progress. And remember-that's what your evaluator will be looking for-PROGRESS, not how little Susie matches up with others, but if she is working well on HER level and is progressing well.

Ooops! Should you mess up (not submit an evaluation) and be threatened with the dismissal of your homeschool program by the county, you may have to appear before the board. Use our power-point, "How to Prepare for a Portfolio Evaluation, without losing your mind!" which is on the Services page of our EvaluationStation.Com site to prepare for this meeting. Concentrate on the "items required by law" and you will be ready to present your "case" to the board. Of course, it is MUCH BETTER to be prepared so this NEVER happens!
