This Black History Month, we would like to highlight community organizations in Tampa Bay that are advancing and advocating for Black community health. These organizations play an essential role in health education, access to care, prevention, and community support; efforts that directly impact the children and families we serve.

We are proud to recognize:
Bay Area Medical Association () for supporting Black physicians and promoting equitable care
Center for Health Equity () for addressing social factors that influence health through education and collaboration
Sisters Network Tampa Bay () for advancing breast health education, advocacy, and survivorship support
Black Girls Run! Tampa (Facebook: Black Girls Run! Tampa) for promoting wellness, physical activity, and community connection among Black women

As pediatric trainees at the USF, learning from and partnering with community organizations strengthens our understanding of the populations we serve and supports our commitment to high-quality, community-informed care.

Today’s intern spotlight is featuring the amazing Dr. Quiñones Colòn!

Jenniffer’s song choice is This is Me by Kaela Settle: “This song became my personal anthem during med school.
That journey was a true rollercoaster, and I listened to this song on my way to every exam—yes, even the Step exams. It gave me the confidence and strength I needed to push through, reminding me to show up as my full, fearless self every time.”

Just like that our interns finish out their orientation week with a welcome party at Dr. Emmanuel, our Pediatric Chair's house with some coresidents and faculty, as well as their JHACH and CAMLs orientation for badges and training 🏥

We are so excited to announce our new incoming Pediatric residents 🤩 🎉Welcome Class of 2028!! 🎉

Not all treasure is silver or gold, some comes in the form of residency mateys 🦜☠️

It’s our favorite time of the year! Gasparilla is a 106 year old tradition where a pirate invasion arrives in Tampa Bay to take over the city and it all culminates in a parade down Bayshore Blvd ⚓️ Our residents on service had the best view and were able to watch the boat invasion from Tamp General!

We’re already counting down til next year 👀🏴‍☠️

Happy World Kindness Day from USF Peds!

No one in our program embodies kindness more than our amazing program administrator, Kelly! She woke up at the crack of dawn to surprise our residents with donuts this morning! 🤗🤤🍩

Whether on wards or in clinic, our residents definitely showed their Halloween spirit 👻

Congratulations to Dr. Aaron Mennitt, Med-Peds PGY2, for winning the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Bee Award!

Aaron was nominated by a nurse for going above and bee-yond for a patient in a difficult situation. He was recognized with a surprise award ceremony and received a certificate, a bee badge pin, a coveted Bee Award tshirt, and a monetary prize! He is the first physician at JHACH to the win the award since its inception! We’re so proud of our awesome residents and everything they do for their patients! 🐝

Thank you to everyone that reached out with well wishes while our community weathered back to back hurricanes. We are so excited to kick off interview season and have sent out our first round of invitations to interview! We can’t wait to meet this year’s awesome applicants!
