🎃👻 GrayLani Homeschool Presents: Our 6th Annual Haunted House Project! 👻🎃

From scrubbing floors and clearing cobwebs to crafting eerie props, designing spooky scenes, and running the show — this year’s haunted house was 100% student-powered! 🧹🕷️

A’Lani and Grayson poured their hearts (and a few screams!) into every detail. They handled the cleaning, planning, design, decorating, and final ex*****on — and let’s just say, they absolutely nailed it. 💀🔥

This has become their favorite annual homeschool project, combining creativity, teamwork, engineering, and event management — with a big dash of frightful fun.

We’re so proud of their hard work and dedication to bringing spooky smiles to all our guests this year. Until next Halloween… the haunted house rests. 🖤🏚️

💗 Grayson skipped the books today and hit the field instead — not for sports, but to lend a hand where it counts most. Together, we joined the amazing volunteers of American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer to help set up and prep for tomorrow’s big walk at Raymond James Stadium.

It’s not every day you get to trade classwork for community work, and I couldn’t be prouder of his heart and hustle. 💪 Watching him jump in, move chairs, hang signs, and help others in LaVita’s name was a full-circle moment. She would’ve been so proud. 💕

We’re ready to walk, celebrate, and fight back. 🎗️ Come out tomorrow and be part of something powerful.

🌿 GrayLani Homeschool Field Experience: Cotton Fields of Barwick, Georgia

During our visit to Grandma’s house in Barwick, Georgia, we stopped by a local cotton field — the same kind of crop that helped shape history, clothing, and culture for centuries.

We learned that cotton is a natural fiber that grows inside fluffy white bolls on a plant. Each boll contains seeds surrounded by soft fibers that can be spun into thread and woven into fabric. The cotton we wear every day once looked just like this!

We talked about:
👕 How cotton becomes clothing
⚙️ The invention of the cotton gin and how it changed agriculture
📜 The role of cotton in American history — both its importance and its connection to enslaved labor
🌎 How modern farmers now grow cotton sustainably

It was so special to see the plants up close and connect what we’ve studied in science and history to real life.

📚🖋️ GrayLani Homeschool Literature & Life Lesson

Today we explored one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous poems — “The Raven.” 🪶
We talked about how it feels to miss someone you love and how the poem shows that sadness can linger, just like the raven that never leaves the narrator’s side.

Then we brought it to life with The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror version, where Homer plays the man and Bart is the raven — a fun (and funny!) way to see how even cartoons can connect to classic literature! 💛

This month, the story hit especially close to home for us. Alani has been missing LaVita extra lately, and we talked about how sometimes poems, books, and even shows can help us understand our feelings and keep memories alive. 💗

✨ “Quoth the Raven, ‘Nevermore’” — but love and memories never really go away.

📚GrayLani Homeschool Summer Adventures📚

It’s been quite a while since we’ve shared what’s happening in our GrayLani Homeschool classroom, and this summer has been packed with learning, work, and new experiences!

🌊 At Honeymoon Island Nature Preserve, we soaked in the rains, studied marine life, and collected beautiful shells.
🐊🎣 At Lake Tarpon, we learned about alligators up close and spent time fishing, connecting science and hands-on experience.
💦🪨 Our travels took us to Ichetucknee Springs and Little River on the Suwannee, where we explored Florida’s cave systems and unique springs.

But summer wasn’t just about exploration—it was also about responsibility and giving back.
👦 Grayson stepped into a part-time role as my assistant, working hard unloading sodas, waters, and ice, and prepping fruit—a bar back who doesn’t touch alcohol, but learned all about teamwork and preparation.
👧 Alani proudly joined me to represent LaVita’s Warriors at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, carrying on her aunt’s legacy of strength and advocacy. 💕🎀

It’s been a season full of growth—academically, personally, and as a family. We’re excited to carry this momentum into fall with even more field trips, lessons, and community experiences.

🌍✨ Learning Beyond the Classroom! ✨🌍

GrayLani Homeschool is making the most of our renewed MOSI passes with another amazing adventure! This week, we visited The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, where we explored the history of Old Florida, learning about the native people, animals, and sea creatures that once thrived here. 🐚🌿

We were fascinated by the handcrafted tools made from conch shells and gained a new appreciation for early innovation. 🏹 The planetarium show on light pollution showed us how artificial light is disrupting wildlife and ecosystems. 🌌🔦

We also had the chance to view the American Farmer Photography Exhibit, a powerful tribute to the hardworking men and women who feed our nation. 🚜📸 It was an inspiring reminder of the dedication and resilience of farmers across the country.

Hands-on learning at its best! Where should we explore next? Drop your recommendations in the comments! ⬇️💡
