When suffering ends, why do we feel guilty feeling relief?

When someone we love dies after a long illness, there can be grief… and sometimes relief. Relief that they are no longer suffering. Relief that the waiting is over. Relief that everyone can finally breathe.

But then comes the guilt.

Does relief mean we loved them less?
Or does it mean we loved them through something unbearably painful?

This month, we’re opening space for one of the most honest and least talked-about parts of grief.

No judgment. No lectures. Just real conversation.

Grateful for conversations that matter.

Friday's event at St. Petersburg Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel was a powerful reminder of why community connection matters so much in end-of-life care.

We had the opportunity to meet and speak with people who care deeply about families, remembrance, funeral service, grief, legacy, and creating spaces where difficult conversations feel a little less heavy.

One thing stood out clearly: families do not want to feel like a number. They want to feel seen, heard, and supported.
