Came across a video that Eric Murray shared. He asked a scenario question I’ve heard from many of my own students, so I wanted to weigh in on some of the self-defense advice being discussed.
We all have a responsibility to vet the information we consume, especially when the topic is something that could literally change the course of your life.
I don’t know the attorney being referenced, so this isn’t about attacking anyone personally. I care about examining the advice itself. In this video, I explain where I disagree, why I disagree, and what I’ve learned through my training because I want to make sure people have reliable information before they ever find themselves in a situation where they have to defend themselves.

Some trips are about the destination and others remind you how far you’ve come.
Five years ago, I watched the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean in Miami. Then I drove across the state to Marco Island to watch the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. Even then, I was thinking bigger.
Recently, I watched the sunset over the Pacific Ocean in San Diego.
Different coast. Different season of life. Clean shaven with a full head of hair then. Gray beard and bald now. For what it’s worth, the smile is still the same.
Oh… and yes, In-N-Out was overhyped.

After reaching a certain point in your training, you have to find something that pushes you beyond your limits. Sometimes that motivation comes from within. Other times, it comes from having someone who refuses to let you settle.
Internally, I know I need to get out of my own head. My fastest DTFS to an A-zone hit is 0.82 seconds (June 2026). Now I have to trust the work I’ve already put in and let my body move without overthinking… or maybe I just need to lean into my ego. 😅
Jamarkus B. Anderson has been with me since Day 1. We’ve always had a big bro/little bro relationship, but neither of us ever backs down from a challenge. We both want to be great, so after every session we ask the same question:
