Meet EPI Reading Competency 3 & 4 Instructor Sean Newborn! Mr. Newborn also serves as a Literacy Coach and Assistant Head of the English Department at Wharton High School.
"My family is full of educators, and a thirst for knowledge is part of my DNA. My first path was to become a professor, as I taught at Bowling Green State University and the University of Maryland in pursuit of a Ph.D. in American Studies. It wasn't until I started working for a tutoring center one summer that I found my true passion in teaching middle and high school students. Soon after I decided to join the EPI career switcher program at the University of Virginia and became a teacher a year later. UVA also hired me to teach Reading in the Content Areas and Adolescent Reading in the same EPI program. After I moved to Florida with my family in 2014, I hoped to continue teaching at the college level. I finally got the opportunity when Dr. Ratliff hired me in 2020 to first teach Reading at EPI and then to write the curriculum for the new Reading courses. The passion and energy of aspiring teachers and career-switchers, like myself, inspire me to constantly improve my own craft. I always say I learn more from our EPI students than they learn from me."

Meet EPI Diversity, Classroom Management, and Instructional Strategies Instructor Dr. Lori Beth Bradner! Dr. Bradner also serves as AVID coordinator and teacher at Randall Middle School. She joined the EPI faculty in 2020.

"My children inspired me to become a teacher. In my mind, it is the gift that keeps on giving as I have matriculated with them through their school years.
EPI is near and dear to my heart. I am an EPI graduate. I credit the foundation I received as a student in EPI to my success as an educator.
Teaching with EPI is an opportunity to give back to a program that launched me into the career of my dreams. It affords me the opportunity to inspire future generations of educators."
