The inaugural Florida Undergraduate Research Posters at the Capitol was a great success! Students, faculty, and staff from 14 universities across Florida came to the Capitol to share their research with legislators and the general public. Students were also able to set meetings with their representatives to discuss the importance of their research and undergraduate research as a whole!

The event was hosted by the new non-profit Florida Undergraduate Research Association (FURA), who also administer the Florida Undergraduate Research Conference (FURC) coming up at the end of February!

If you want to learn more about FURA, please visit their site here: https://www.floridaundergradresearch.org/

The CRE is incredibly sad to share this news. Dr. Lisa Scott was a longstanding member of the CRE's Faculty Advisory Committee, contributing to the selection of our summer research award winners across more than a decade. Her gracious guidance supported many students through their undergraduate research experiences, and she was awarded the Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year Award in 2007 (along with countless other awards recognizing her teaching and mentorship). Her presence will be deeply missed across campus and certainly within the Honors, Scholars, & Fellows House.

Her remarkable generosity carries on in her continued support of undergraduate researchers at Florida State University. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up in Lisa’s honor. To make a contribution to the Lisa Scott Endowed Undergraduate Research Award, please visit http://give.fsu.edu/lisascott . This scholarship is designed for 1st generation/1st time in college women interested in pursuing an undergraduate research project.

~CRE Thankfulness Week~

Next up we have our Director, Latika Young!

"I am thankful for the support for undergraduate research and academic engagement from across campus. We are especially grateful this year to have this hard work recognized by receiving the national Campus-wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments from the Council for Undergraduate Research. I am also incredibly grateful for Team CRE as well as our HSF colleagues and our partners from around campus! Alicia brings her dry humor and love of sea creatures, David his dad jokes and dedication to bike commuting, Morgan his ebullient presence and creativity, David his even dryer humor than Alicia (oft coupled with cackling) and his wealth of knowledge from his participation in CRE’s programming as a former undergrad, and Alex her passion for working directly with students as individuals and as groups/teams and for schooling us on all things Kentucky. We are also so lucky to share the beautiful Honors, Scholars, & Fellows House with our fellow Undergraduate Studies and Graduate School colleagues. We’re looking forward to these collaborations and more as we move into the twentytwenty!"

What are you most thankful for? Comment below! 🤗

Hurricane Ian Update for Florida State University
Visit alerts.fsu.edu for all official updates

Classes Canceled Tuesday-Friday, Campus Closed for Business Thursday-Friday

Due to Hurricane Ian, classes at Florida State University’s Tallahassee campuses will be canceled Tuesday, Sept. 27, through Friday, Sept. 30. Out of an abundance of caution, the cancellation of classes on Tuesday is to allow students to travel safely out of the area if they so choose.
Campus will remain open and operational Tuesday, Sept. 27, and Wednesday, Sept. 28. Campus will close for business Thursday, Sept. 29, and Friday, Sept. 30.
Deans and Vice Presidents will provide guidance to faculty and staff for their respective colleges and divisions. As the University will continue to provide services to our students, staff should consult with their supervisors to determine their department’s needs. A communication will follow from the Office of Human Resources regarding an accelerated time entry and payroll processing schedule, and guidance for employees designated as essential personnel.
FSU is prepared to support students throughout the storm. To the extent possible, the University will continue to provide on campus services, including dining, for our students throughout the closure. On-campus residence halls will remain open for current residential students.
Students are encouraged to discuss possible travel plans with family and friends. Please continue to monitor the latest weather information from the National Weather Service or other official weather sources for information outside the Tallahassee area.
Students who choose to stay in Tallahassee will be advised via the FSU Alert system to follow a "shelter in place" protocol during the storm. That is, stay indoors, away from doors and windows, during the storm. Box meals will be delivered to the residence halls before the storm.
An “All Clear” message will be issued when conditions improve after the storm has passed. Continue to monitor alerts.fsu.edu for updates.
The university is expected to resume classes and normal business operations on Monday, Oct. 3.
Please visit alerts.fsu.edu for more information and updates.
