Now that has left the Big Bend, we turn toward relief and recovery. For those of you seeking ways to help those who have been impacted by the storm, we have compiled resources from experts and opportunities from our community partners. We will continue to provide updates as we hear from our partners working to meet the needs of our neighbors as they begin the process of recovery.


Due to Tropical Storm Idalia, Florida State University’s Tallahassee campuses will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The university is expected to resume normal business operations on Thursday, Aug. 31.

It's almost Grad Season! 🎓🎉

Applications for our annual V-rak-ke-ce-tv Cultural Graduation Ceremony are officially open! The name "V-rak-ke-ce-tv" is the Seminole Creek phrase meaning "to honor" as we seek to honor students' accomplishments through their journey, honor their families and friends for their continued support, and honor what it truly means to be a Seminole.

The ceremony will be held on May 4. Seats are first-come, first-served, so be sure to apply by March 21 by 11:59 p.m. via the link in our bio!

This weekend, students from two of our programs got outside to get some sunshine and make memories. Participants from the Women's Leadership Institute spent this past Saturday kayaking with Appalachicola Riverkeeper's Owl Creek 🚣🏻‍♀️ while Leadership LOGIC students hit the ropes course at the FSU Lakefront! 🧗🏻

The Center for Leadership & Social Change and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life host a session of the LeaderShape Institute, a program that challenges participants to lead with integrity while working toward a vision grounded in their deepest values. Join us in Laguna Beach, FL, for a weekend of leadership development to discover what you want to do and who you want to be.

Leadership Learning in the Outdoors for Group and Individual Change, better known as Leadership LOGIC, is a two day-long overnight retreat designed to engage in leadership development through experiential learning. Not only do participants get to learn about leadership development, but they'll also be able to meet fellow FSU students and participate in engaging activities. ⁠

MLS provides opportunities for participants to learn about their identities and how they impact the ways in which they choose to show up in the world as well as how participants can become agents of social change in an increasingly diverse and global community.⁠

Applications for Florida State Alternative Breaks are now open! Spend your Spring Break in Fort Myers, FL, or Boone, NC giving back to the local communities! The cost for each trip is $200 and is all-inclusive.

Thanks to everyone who joined ‘s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration featuring , who emphasized the need to use the law as an instrument for good.

Today, members of the community celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by engaging in service. is the only federal holiday designated as a , aimed at joining people to work toward Dr. King’s vision of a Beloved Community. According to , has grown over time as more people have joined the call to take action in their communities.

Today, students turned their day off from classes to a day on by joining EngageTLH trips aimed at addressing issues related to with , and .

After their service, students from all three trips gathered for reflection on their experiences. shared her thoughts on the day:

“Stocking and supporting the Food for Thought Pantry was an amazing way to spend . Knowing that I am helping my peers come to a clean and calm environment to pick up their groceries is my chance to serve. Service to me means providing love, support, and assurance to those who need it and making a change one act at a time. To paraphrase Martin Luther King, Jr., it's not just about achieving accessible peace, but also how we get there and the relationships built along the way.”

The Service Scholar Program is designed to promote civic responsibility as an integral part of a liberal arts education at Florida State University and to recognize students with an outstanding record of service and leadership. Admission to the program is reserved for first-year students who have demonstrated excellence in service and leadership in planning and promoting community involvement among their peers. If accepted, you'll receive a $16,000 scholarship, peer mentorship, and a second family of other service-minded student leaders!

The award aims to assist FSU students in completing their education and is available on a competitive basis to both undergraduate and graduate students.
