Greetings,
My co-authors, Rachel Saidi, Helen Burn, Ben Baumer, Zarek Drozda, Debzani Deb, and I wrote a recently published article which explores diverse pathways to data science for various groups, including high school students, those in two-year colleges, and students in small colleges and minority-serving institutions. The article identifies opportunities and challenges associated with pursuing data science for students in these sectors, including factors such as building partnerships and awareness of the field and difficulties in establishing articulation agreements between institutions.
Special shout out to the Academic Data Science Alliance (ADSA), and in particular, Micaela Parker, for providing the platform for us to collaborate on this paper!
We hope you find our paper valuable as you consider building diverse pathways to data science!

Hey CIS family - as I'm sure you have heard, a tornado has come through Tallahassee and has hit the Southside of town very hard, including the campus. As you can see in the photo, for those who know, our beloved SunRoom is no more.
The second pic is the Grand Ballroom.
Please pray for the FAMU family and we'll keep you posted on any updates.

ATTENTION ALL FAMU ALUMNI: Are you (or your company) looking for Summer Interns from FAMU? Would you like to have a FREE FAMU Summer Intern this summer?
If so, the national BlackStone LaunchPad program and the BlackStone LaunchPad Florida Network are launching our Florida Summer Internship Program this summer. This is an opportunity for you to advertise positions on our StartupTree platform for potential interns, and if you choose to hire a student from FAMU, BlackStone LaunchPad (through our FAMU chapter) will sponsor that student - you will invoice our FAMU office and we will pay you the funds you can use to pay the intern! It's that simple, and a win-win!
If you are interested, please message Jason Black to get more information, and to get signed up. We are trying to get students hired right away so PLEASE ACT FAST!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
For those who were inquiring, I wanted to provide an update on my mom, Barbara Black. Some of you heard she was ill and asked me about it.
Last month Mrs. Black was diagnosed with lymphoma - a type of cancer. She has been in the hospital and rehab centers for several months, but has been home for the last few weeks and is recovering. She's going through chemo but things are going well.
I'm posting this because I know many of you love and care about her, and I'm asking for your prayers as she continues to get better. She's celebrating a 90th birthday in September of 2024, and we want her to be able to see many more! God is able and faithful!
