Jiha Moon is from DaeGu, Korea and lives and works in Atlanta, GA. She received her MFA from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Moon’s gestural paintings, mixed media, ceramic sculpture, and installation explore fluid identities and the global movement of people and their cultures. She says “I am a cartographer of cultures and an icon maker in my lucid worlds.” She is taking cues from wide ranges of history of Eastern and Western art, colors and designs from popular culture, Korean temple paintings and folk art, internet emoticons and icons, fruit stickers and labels of products from all over the place. She often teases and changes these lexicons so that they are hard to identify, yet stay in a familiar zone.

Artist preview!

Join us in March for a FAR & Away virtual lecture with artists in residence Kei Ito and Andrew Keiper. The artists will be discussing their photographic, video, and sound based collaboration work.

More details to come! Register for this event via the link in bio.

About the Artists:

Kei Ito is a visual artist working primarily with experimental photography and installation art who is currently teaching at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in NYC. Ito received his MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2016. Ito’s work addresses issues of deep intergenerational loss and connections as he explores the materiality and experimental processes of photography, visualizing the invisible: radiation, memory and life/death.

Ito’s work, fundamentally rooted in the trauma and legacy passed down from his late grandfather - a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, meditates on the complexity of his identity and heritage through examining the past and current threats of nuclear disaster and his present status as an US-immigrant. Many of Ito’s artworks transformed both art and non-art spaces into temporal monuments that became platforms for the audience to explore social issues and the memorials dedicated to the losses suffered from the consequences of those issues.

Andrew Paul Keiper is an artist and educator based in Baltimore, Maryland where he teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the Animation and Film & Video programs. Working in sound, image and installation, Andrew's work dances across the boundaries of sound art, experimental music and sound design.

Field recordings, drones, drumming and sound designed evocations of places remote in time and place commingle in Keiper’s work, inviting the audience to listen in ways they may not be accustomed to listening. Much of Andrew's work contemplates the legacy of his grandfather's role in the creation of the atomic bomb, and the ramifications of atomic weaponry past and present. Andrew also maintains a practice as a sound designer for film, and as a musician and audio engineer.

So excited about these new Put it on Blast stickers by Cute Rage Press( & *tadharap) that will be featured in Ready, coming up soon at ! Opening Oct. 26 and up through Dec 21.
Ready features work from: Sita Kuratomi Bhaumik, Janaki Jagannath, & Cece Carpio; Cute Rage Press (Aram Han Sifuentes & Ish*ta Dharap); Rebecca Goldschmidt; Vero Majano; Nyeema Morgan & Mike Cloud; and Kim Nguyen. The exhibition presents mobile stations created by Related Tactics that gather and deploy a collection of artists’ interventions, tools, and strategies that can be used by audiences to interrupt systems of marginalization, exploitation, and erasure, large and small. The assembled materials range from the poetic to prompts for guerilla actions, from stickers to seeds, prompts for literary analysis to the building blocks for temporary gatherings, but are all linked through their interest in encouraging individual agency in challenging everyday moments where we are often caught off guard or isolated from allies. Ready offers a variety of tools to be utilized beyond the exhibition.

Repost from

It’s the last weekend to check out our project, “The future now,” along 3rd Street in Bayview! We’ll be posting images of all the posters this week as the project comes to a close.

“The future now” is a site-responsive public project consisting of a set of 15 posters, translated in 3 languages, installed in 14 storefronts along the 3rd St corridor. The series uses text instructions and artistic prompts to invite reflection on our political moment, community history, and facets of Black life in the city. It is also part of a dialogue with neighbors and a network of social relationships in the community.

The public installation was produced in conjunction with an online survey exhibition of RT’s work, “Become The Monuments That Cannot Fall” through the University of San Francisco’s Thacher Gallery: usfca.edu/become-the-monuments. The projects are organized by with students from the USF Museum Studies Curatorial Practicum and commissioned by the .

Special thanks to the Bayview businesses and storefronts hosting works in the series: Auntie April’s Chicken Waffles & Soul Food, Bayview Opera House gallery space, Economic Development on Third (EDOT), G. Mazzei & Sons’ Hardware, Gratta Wines, The Jazz Room, JN Outreach, Kennedy’s Market, La Laguna Taqueria, Radio Africa Kitchen, Star Market, Sunday Gather, and the representatives of 4726 and 4900 3rd St.

Spanish translations for The future now by Rakhel Villamil-Acera, Associate Professor of Spanish Studies at USF. Chinese translations by Liuyu Ivy Chen for TransWords.net. Installation photo courtesy of University of San Francisco.
