Alpha Kappa Mu was founded in 1937 at Tennessee A&I State College and was admitted to the Association of College Honor Societies in 1952. Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society grew out of an idea conceived by Dr. George W. The Kappa Iota ( ) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society expresses heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Timothy Herring. He was inducted into our honor society in the spring of 2024 and will be sorely missed.

Florida A&M University mourns the loss of Timothy Herring, a psychology graduate student. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. In this time of sorrow, we stand together in remembrance of his life and the joy he brought to those around him.

Graduate Spotlight: The Kappa Iota ( ) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society congratulates Deloria Jackson on receiving her Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree. She was inducted into the FAMU chapter in spring of 2022 and served on our 2023-2024 E-Board as iStrike Liaison. She plans to rest, travel, and continue working on behalf of marginalized and underserved communities throughout the U.S. We are thankful for and proud of you, Dr. Jackson!

Service in Action!!

The Kappa Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society was honored to support the Black History Program at the FAMU Educational Research Center for Child Development and the 2026 African American Read-In at FAMU Developmental Research School.

Through book donations to both events, we reaffirmed our commitment to uplifting our community, promoting literacy, and celebrating the rich legacy of Black history and culture.

Graduate Spotlight: The Kappa Iota ( ) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society congratulates Taylor Howard on receiving a Master of Environmental Science degree with a focus on policy and risk management. Ms. Howard was inducted into our chapter in 2024. She plans to work with Cohort 7 of the Just Energy Academy for the Partnership of Southern Equity before advancing to the national round of the 2026 Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship as a Florida Sea Grant state finalist.
