We are family. Class of 2016.
From Julie Sear
I've been a teacher on this campus for 14 years. I raised my daughter there, K-8th grade, believing "it takes a village". I wouldn't change a thing. This is my second family.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I love my charter school, how about you?
There are so many things our family loves about SAST, they are hard to enumerate. From the administration truly caring about the success and well-being of not only each child, but also the teachers and staff. To the most loving, warm, supportive teachers a parent or student could ask for - each student is truly an individual and teachers and staff work to develop each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses. To the culture of inclusion, diversity, caring, acceptance, and the drive to make the world a kinder, better place. To the fabulous students and families who take the saying “We take care of ourselves, each other, and this place,” to heart, SAST is truly a one-of-a-kind, special place.

Wanted to give SAST a huge shout out - with the biggest to Ms. Anna - the dance recital was absolutely fantastic and perfectly presented! It showed how serious each student took this presentation! They were so proud to present their hardwork! I wanted to thank each of you for working so hard with our children helping them grow while expanding their abilities!
Celine Allana and I cried at least twice as we were so proud of the kids and their efforts!

are dec 19 and 20 still early release days?
I thought the event last night turned out great! Would love to see any photos people took. Maybe we could make them into a collage or display to show what a fun event it was. I appreciate everyone's hard work and participation.
Thank you SAST Dragons 🐉 for all your generous donations at the Proof Family Potluck last week!

Because of those donations we were able to donate cash to seven families at Apalachicola Bay Charter (ABC) who lost everything in the storm. A team also went over to the school today to not only deliver the donations but serve lunch to their teachers returning to school today (their students return tomorrow). We are in contact with the school to determine their families’ needs going forward after this devastating storm and will let you know ASAP how we can all contribute to this awesome school!

Thank you Dragons for your big hearts! ABC was blown away by your love and generosity!
We drove by the school. A big pine tree fell across the driving loop and crushed some of Ms. Cassie’s garden. Another huge branch came down on the blacktop. Also a large hanging pine branch behind the dumpster. Thankfully there appears to be no structural damage anywhere

Nationally acclaimed K-8 public charter school & home of the Dragons The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is an accredited public Charter School serving students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade who reside in Leon or Wakulla County, Florida.

From Julie Sear -
MS Science Teacher and MS Team Leader:

A special note to 8th grade students and families...

Yesterday, we witnessed an unprecedented level of emotion on the last day of school. Let's remember the journey...

6th grade... they never returned from spring break and started months of isolation

7th grade... they were tossed into a new version of school... some on campus, some learning at home over ZOOM, with teachers and parents working as a team (often stumbling😊) to keep our students educated, safe, and productive. Gosh...look what we did together!

8th grade... Yay, back on campus! But with some more stumbling as trying to "reinvent normal" was not as easy as we thought it would be.

Spring we are just gaining real momentum, it is now time to go. This class missed a lot of traditions, but we fortunately squeaked in a few great things in at the end.

But this group will be ok, as flexibility and resilience is in their blood now. I have never seen a class "roll with it" like they do.

I send out big hugs of gratitude to these families. Thank you parents for your flexibility, patience, and continued support during these past 3 years. We are so fortunate.

And to our 8th graders... thank you for your motivation to stay scholars through this rocky ride, and thank you for taking such good care of each other. You have no idea how much we will miss you. Now go blaze a great path!

Cheers to the class of 2022!

April 3-9 marked Food Waste Prevention Week. Did you know that nearly 40% of all food in the U.S. is wasted? “That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year.”

What can we do? In the SAST garden we harvest healthy snacks, savor the fresh flavors, and discuss the benefits of composting leftover vegetable scraps to continue enriching our garden soil. Our SAST gardeners are learning that leftover veggie scraps breakdown and become new soil for future snacks. School composting is one small step to help young learners see the impact their actions can have.

SAST students and staff returned to school Monday morning delighted by the sprucing, weeding, and work of dedicated volunteers over the weekend. We are grateful for our dragon families. Thanks for making garden workday a success!
