From Julie Sear -
MS Science Teacher and MS Team Leader:
A special note to 8th grade students and families...
Yesterday, we witnessed an unprecedented level of emotion on the last day of school. Let's remember the journey...
6th grade... they never returned from spring break and started months of isolation
7th grade... they were tossed into a new version of school... some on campus, some learning at home over ZOOM, with teachers and parents working as a team (often stumbling😊) to keep our students educated, safe, and productive. Gosh...look what we did together!
8th grade... Yay, back on campus! But with some more stumbling as trying to "reinvent normal" was not as easy as we thought it would be.
Spring 2022...as we are just gaining real momentum, it is now time to go. This class missed a lot of traditions, but we fortunately squeaked in a few great things in at the end.
But this group will be ok, as flexibility and resilience is in their blood now. I have never seen a class "roll with it" like they do.
I send out big hugs of gratitude to these families. Thank you parents for your flexibility, patience, and continued support during these past 3 years. We are so fortunate.
And to our 8th graders... thank you for your motivation to stay scholars through this rocky ride, and thank you for taking such good care of each other. You have no idea how much we will miss you. Now go blaze a great path!
Cheers to the class of 2022!

April 3-9 marked Food Waste Prevention Week. Did you know that nearly 40% of all food in the U.S. is wasted? “That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year.” https://www.feedingamerica.org
What can we do? In the SAST garden we harvest healthy snacks, savor the fresh flavors, and discuss the benefits of composting leftover vegetable scraps to continue enriching our garden soil. Our SAST gardeners are learning that leftover veggie scraps breakdown and become new soil for future snacks. School composting is one small step to help young learners see the impact their actions can have.
SAST students and staff returned to school Monday morning delighted by the sprucing, weeding, and work of dedicated volunteers over the weekend. We are grateful for our dragon families. Thanks for making garden workday a success!
