The Partnership Program is funded by the Florida Department of Education, K-12 Public Schools, Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services, was introduced to educators and schools of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in 1999. As an initiative to support educators and schools' professional development and training, the Partnership Program was designed to enhance the educational program for students with ASD. As a result of the program, the Statewide Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) have joined together with hundreds of Florida educators, providing training and technical assistance to develop and implement innovative and effective practices within educational programs for students with ASD.
Each educator or school will be matched to a Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) professional who will mentor the educator or school staff. The CARD partner will provide support, resources, technical assistance, and training that is specific to the needs identified by the educator or school.

Presented by Nigel Newbutt, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning, Equitable Learning Technology Lab (ELTL) in the Institute for Advanced Learning Technologies, University of Florida
In this talk, Dr. Newbutt will cover a brief history and contextual overview of virtual reality used with, by and for autistic groups. He will also discuss results from his research that has worked centrally with autistic groups to explore their sensory and visual experiences of head-mounted displays. Finally, his talk will provide examples of how his fundamental research has led to working with autistic groups in order to better understand their preferences and ways this has articulated into practical and applied VR examples. Dr. Newbutt will conclude with thoughts and reflections on the need for greater inclusion of autistic groups in our research.

Executive function (EF) strategies (e.g., shifting flexibly, goal setting, organization, accessing working memory, and self-monitoring) are crucial for success in school. However, without support many students, especially those with learning differences, such as dysgraphia, will struggle; as they fall behind, they may lose self-confidence in their abilities.
In this webinar, we will develop a personalized, functional and research-based definition of EF, learning how EF relates to metacognition, self-concept, and effort, and exploring why students so often struggle with EF related tasks.
