Florida A&M University alumnus Gamaliel Harris is taking his talent to The Juilliard School, where he will begin graduate studies in jazz this fall.
A Fort Walton Beach native and 2025 FAMU graduate, Harris first came to the Hill as a pre-physical therapy major. But through FAMUβs jazz ensemble, mentorship and performance opportunities, his passion for music became a calling.
After performing at the Jazz at Lincoln Center and Virginia Arts Festival HBCU Jazz Festival, Harris earned Outstanding Trombonist and Overall Outstanding Soloist honors.
His performance caught the attention of distinguished trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis, who encouraged Harris to apply to Juilliard.
Now, the Rattler musician is headed to New York for his next stage.

Study abroad opportunities just became more accessible for Florida A&M University students. πβοΈ
FAMU has been selected for the IIE American Passport Project Grant, helping up to 25 Pell-eligible students obtain their first U.S. passport and opening the door to international education experiences, global internships, research opportunities, and cultural exchange programs.
For many first-generation and low-income college students, getting a passport is the first barrier to studying abroad. This initiative helps remove that obstacle and expands access to life-changing global learning experiences for HBCU students.
Last year alone, more than 200 FAMU students studied abroad across 45+ countries. The world is calling, Rattlers. ππ
Tag a student who needs to see this. Save this post for future study abroad opportunities and send it to someone dreaming of international travel through college.
