📓 Millions of college students are prepping to take exams in the coming days and weeks. So much rides on these end-of-semester measurements.
💡 And while the knowledge is critical, there's so much more that young people learn that can't be measured on a test.
🧰 Like your resourcefulness, your motivation, your creativity and curiosity.
💪 You've mastered grit and self-discipline that no multiple-choice assessment can possibly sum up. These are all characteristics that companies and leaders are looking for in their next great hire.
🎥 While my video was created for FSU College of Communication & Information students at my alma mater, Florida State University, the message is intended for anyone sitting for finals. Especially my own son Conner who's a college sophomore.

✨Class of 2026 Admitted Student Spotlight✨

Please join us in welcoming Sydney to the FSU community!

📍Tallahassee, FL
🏫 Florida State University Schools - FSUS
🌎Major: Plans to double major in Communications (FSU College of Communication & Information) and Environmental Science & Policy (FSU College of Arts & Sciences)

Sydney is a Tallahassee native, with an affinity for performing and community engagement. She has performed in 11 musical productions with the Young Actors Theatre Company and has participated in the FSUS Concert Chorus for over 7 years, where she currently serves as Vice President. To stay engaged in her community Sydney volunteers with our local food pantry Second Harvest of the Big Bend, she was the FSUS representative for the “Year of the Girl Summit”, and she has participated in the Florida House of Representatives Page Program.

We asked Sydney, “Why did you apply to FSU?”
“I applied to FSU because the university has always been home to me. I've been going to football games, participating in the School of Music's events, and watching the Marching Chiefs practically since I was born. In high school, it’s easy to feel limited to a select group. FSU is a great place for me to branch out of my comfort zone. In the Florida State University Honors Program I will be able to take interesting classes that will help me engage with the people around me.”
Scott Clemons is now a senior in the FSU College of Communication & Information, but when he started at FSU he recognized the importance of joining on-campus organizations to ease the transition for himself, and other out-of-state students, and make campus feel like home. #FSUStudentStar

✨ Meeting future leaders at my alma mater, Florida State University, fills me with such optimism. ✨

On February 2, 20 local college students will embark on a half-day to visit six area tech companies that are looking for interns and employees from our local universities. Unbeknownst to many students (and residents), Tallahassee is home to more than 60 tech-based companies and the industry is responsible for creating 13,000+ local jobs. In 2016, Access Tallahassee decided it was time to take students out of the campus bubble.

In this week’s episode of the Tallahassee Business Podcast presented by The Health Network, Ebe Randeree, Associate Dean of FSU College of Communication & Information joins Access Tallahassee Manager, Katie Harwood to talk about the unique opportunity that was created to help attract and retain talent. Ebe has been a major advocate for the tech community and shares the impact the Job Hop has on his students and their careers.

The Fall class of #FSU21 is ready to hear their names called by FSU College of Communication & Information Professor Mark Zeigler on Friday! Here are some highlights from recent commencement ceremonies. commencement.fsu.edu

Lydia Hiller, a graduate of the School of Communication Science and Disorders Bridge Program, combined her acting background with communication work over the summer to create workshops for neurodiverse children. Through these workshops, students are able to practice their speech skills and expand their confidence.

“Most of the campers eagerly participated for the entire hour-long workshop, and I was constantly impressed with how many were speaking lines of text by the end,” says Hiller. “It was a great reminder to never assume someone’s capabilities.”
