Also targeted were political prisoners, prisoners of war, Roma, people with disabilities and homosexuals. Some twelve million people, including six million Jews, died at their hands between 1933 and 1945. Millions more lost their homes and livelihoods.

This special exhibit on the Holocaust will be on display until August 14. Open Tues-Sat 11 am - 5 pm.

Six Million
6,000,000
This entire book contains only one word: Jew
It appears in 40 columns on 120 lines on every one of the 625 sheets (1250 pages).
Each page has 4800 Jews on it.
There are six million Jews in this book.

Focus on one Jew.
A living breathing person.
Murdered by the N**is and their collaborators.
Now choose a row at random. A whole family.
A whole page might represent a beautiful Jewish Community somewhere in Europe – wiped out.

The book contains the word "Jew" 6,000,000 times.
And every single one was someone.
Men, women, and children.
They are gone. But we remember them.

Excerpt above is from the book shown. Now on display as part of the Special Exhibit on the Holocaust open until August 14. CGJ Museum is open Tue-Sat 11 am - 5 pm. No charge for admission. In partnership with Holocaust Education Resource Council - HERC .
📣Join us as we talk LIVE with HERC to share how we, and others in our community, are spreading Holocaust education!

Children of Holocaust survivors Rita Blank, Elizabeth George, and Steven Friedlander will also be sharing their insight and the importance of preserving these histories.

Thursday 3:30-4pm EST on the HERC page.

Please join The Defiant Requiem Foundation on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 7PM EST for an online conversation with Vera Schiff, Terezín Survivor, author and 2020 Order of Canada appointee.

The fourth installment of The Defiant Requiem Foundation’s new online series, Survivor Recollections, will feature a one-on-one discussion between Foundation President and Artistic Director Murry Sidlin and Terezín Survivor Vera Schiff. This intimate conversation will span from recollections of Vera’s time in Terezín, to her post-retirement writing career, to her friendship with fellow Czech, Madeleine Albright. As always, because music is central to The Defiant Requiem Foundation’s mission, the event will include music of Ilse Weber and Carlo Taube – art that was created within the walls of Terezín.

Vera Schiff (née Katz) was born on May 17, 1926, in Prague. In addition to her parents Elsie and Siegfried, and her older sister Eva, 50 members of her extended family lived nearby, all of whom perished in the Holocaust. Vera survived three years at the Terezín Concentration Camp. She documented her experiences, and the experiences of those near to her, in five books including Theresienstadt: The Town the N**is Gave to the Jews.

Vera was recently awarded the prestigious Order of Canada appointment for her illustrious career as an author, historian and public speaker who is nationally recognized for sharing her moving experiences of the Holocaust. One of Canada’s highest civilian honors, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

Registration is required: https://www.defiantrequiem.org/events/survivor-recollections-vera-schiff/

The third installment of our new online series, Survivor Recollections, will feature a one-on-one discussion between The Defiant Requiem Foundation's President and Artistic Director Murry Sidlin and Terezín Survivor Jan Rocek. Jan’s initial connection to the Foundation was through his late wife, Eva, who studied piano with Rafael Schächter as a young girl and sang in all 16 Verdi Requiem performances while imprisoned. But Jan’s own vivid memories of attending lectures in Terezín, encountering Josef Mengele in the selection line at Auschwitz, his friendship with the actor and cabaret composer Karel Švenk, and distinguished career as a professor of chemistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, make his journey a compelling must-hear! As always, because music is central to The Defiant Requiem Foundation’s mission, the event will include works composed by Terezín prisoners. For this event, music of Karel Berman and Jan’s friend, Karel Švenk, will be performed.

A Tennessee school district has voted to ban the Holocaust graphic novel 'Maus'

Holocaust survivors are real. Holocaust denial is real.

Decisions such as this only further cement antisemitic ideologies, and on Holocaust Rememberance day no less.

This is the polar opposite of Rememberance. This is erasure.

A Strong New Lead in ‘The Betrayal of Anne Frank’

A very good book that we suggest!

"The title of Rosemary Sullivan’s important new book, “The Betrayal of Anne Frank,” resounds far beyond its primary meaning. Sullivan is chronicling the investigation of a cold case, the unsolved mystery of who alerted authorities in the summer of 1944 to the hiding place of Frank, her family and four other Jewish people, above a pectin and spice warehouse in N**i-occupied Amsterdam, resulting in their arrest and deportation to concentration camps..."
