Last year some of our Executive Board members visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Reflection Pool in New York City. We recommend everyone to visit the museum if given the opportunity. It truly left us speechless and reminds us to be grateful for what we have and that we have hero’s fighting for our freedom everyday. We will those we lost and we will always strive for a better tomorrow❤️

“One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.”

9/11 Memorial Display on Landis
We were so proud to partner with the FSU Student Veteran Center and Student's for America's Military. It is up to us to remember and honor the lives lost on that day and the lives given in the war that followed.

On September 11, 2001 at 8:45 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, an airplane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. 18 minutes later, a second airplane hit the south tower of the World Trade Center. We, as a nation, lost 2,996 people on that fateful day. We lost husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, hero’s and everything in between. Today and everyday we remember those who were taken from us in such a hateful act. We counter the hate with love as we strive for a better tomorrow everyday. We will never forget ❤️ SAM would like to thank every single person who came out today to help with our flags! It means so much to us and we are so proud and touched it means so much to all of you as well. Please enjoy this display on Landis in front of Strozier Library and take a second to remember those who we lost. As 9/11 proved, we are stronger together than we will ever be apart ❤️💙 @ Landis Green

Your favorite Executive Board is back and so ready for this upcoming semester! Can’t wait to see what we can accomplish with all of you this year 🇺🇸 ❤️

Hello everyone!
As this semester comes to a close, we've opened up our Executive Board Positions for the 2019-2020 school year! Everyone on the current board can easily agree that a executive position in SAM is a great opportunity to get involved in the mission that we have to support our past, present, and future Veterans. It's also an amazing opportunity to make lifetime friends and be more involved in the community.
With that being said: We are looking for both FSU Student Veterans and Civilians that are driven and have leadership qualities to fill our board. You can apply here: https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9uWJgEfoLZRzFQN
We're excited to see all the applications and to pass along our love for SAM to all of you!

This is Hector, our awesome internal coordinator. Hector is excited about our game night tomorrow at the Globe room 2500 from 8pm-10pm. He says he can beat anyone in any game. Think he’s right? Come on out tomorrow and prove him wrong!

Good morning everyone and Happy Monday! We're happy to include our next Veteran for Meet-A-Vet Monday, Skye Musson.
A little history:
Skye is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where she earned her undergraduate degree in Aeronautics. It was during her time at Embry Riddle that she was recruited by the United States Coast Guard through the college student pre-commissioning initiative.
After joining the Coast Guard, she initially worked as a Boarding Officer before being chosen as the first female candidate of the Wilkes Flight Initiative. It was shortly after beginning her flight journey that she was badly injured in a training accident.
As a result of the accident she had to have her right shoulder rebuilt. She spent 2 years rehabilitating her injuries full time. During this time Skye also had to navigate the military medical retirement process and the VA systems as she prepared to leave the service.
Transition to Florida State:
Skye’s transition was particularly hard because it was spurred on by injury and not choice. She was busy having surgeries, in physical therapy and trying to handle her transition on top of that. She chose FSU, sight unseen based on the reputation of the Veterans program and her interactions with the amazing Veteran Center.
She was elected to the CVA E-board and worked with the FSU Veterans Legal Clinic, providing pro bono legal service for veterans. She also worked as the FSU Student Defender and joined the award-winning FSU VisMoot team (VisMoot is an international arbitration team that travels to Vienna every year to compete!)
When asked about her favorite thing about being a Seminole this is what she said:
“I think my favorite thing about being a Seminole is the environment created by President Thrasher and carried throughout the campus as to how veterans are treated. I love how much support and how many opportunities are offered to the veteran community. This includes the RSO boards, VSU all the way down to the veteran’s appreciation events. It also doesn't hurt that you can personally identify with the President of the University and see parts of your own journey in his journey!”

Even though it's Tuesday, meet our Monday Veteran Sean Williams!
Sean served in the United Stated Air Force for six years as an Independent Duty Medic, meaning that he had the same duties as a Physician Assistant. When asked about his transition to Florida State here is what he had to say,
"I transferred to Florida State in the fall of 2017 studying Exercise Physiology with the hopes of going to medical school soon. The transition to college like any veteran was very difficult. The first semester especially was the hardest because you don’t know anyone and your figuring out a new college as a transfer student. However, with the help of the FSU Veterans Center first Friday events I was able to get connected and that’s the one thing I really like about FSU, there is always opportunity to get involved and get connect and they have staff that understand the challenges of being a student veteran. I decided to get involved and I am now the Chief Financial Officer of the Veterans Student Union where we try to help other veterans feel connected when they join FSU."
Huge thanks to Sean for sharing with us!

Hi everyone and happy Monday! We have decided to try something new and fun out for you guys! Welcome to: Meet-a-Vet Monday, where we showcase a Student Veteran from Florida State and get to hear their story!
Here's what our first Vet had to say:
"Initially it wasn’t the easiest transition [to Florida State]. First few semesters I kept to myself and went from school straight home and vis versa. Probably my third semester I branched out, started getting involved with school groups and making friends. Transitioning to FSU was easier. The amount of resources that they have has been a tremendous help."
Semper Fidelis,
Mitch Sheffield
Thank you so much Mitch! If you or anyone you know would like to be featured on our Meet-a-Vet Monday post, just send us a message!
