From the baby house to the preschool building, our kiddos are all smiles learning through play. DYK play opportunities enhance a child’s mastery of academic concepts and build motivation to learn? In fact, two of the most important things that play can develop are interest and motivation. Encouraging these early brings children on board in contributing to their own learning.
Shout out to Girl Scouts Troop 103 who built and installed a at the Goodwill Industries - Big Bend, Inc. Donation Center on Mahan. They ALSO collected funds ($700!) to keep the library maintained and filled. We are so humbled by these girls’ service!
We have decided that TMH Animal Therapy should come to our campus every day. Just wait. More photos loading. ❤️🐾🎉
That sweet, happy Dogtor Gertie face after sharing smiles & snuggles with precious little hoomans during a visit to The Learning Pavilion 😊

Smile, it’s Sunday! And that means less than 24 hours until we get to welcome our kiddos back to the school for another week of learning and fun. ❤️
September is Workforce Development Month in Florida and usually people think of very specific programs and resources for older individuals, but we disagree. Career ideation is something that starts early and dress up is just one of the ways we can help our kiddos explore! We are more than just child care at TLP.
We knew naps were important for emotional regulation, but turns out they help with learning gains, too! 🤯🎉💤
“Research shows when preschool children were read storybooks introducing new words, the children who napped after hearing the stories learned more of the new words than the children who did not nap.”
Check out our curious little chefs!
DYK that asking your kiddos to help in the kitchen is not only a fantastic bonding experience but is actually a tried and tested STEM activity.
to when staff brought the ferrets to school!
Did you know classroom animal encounters help children learn about animal care, become aware of broader environmental issues, and teach important values like empathy, respect and responsibility? These experiences can serve as a springboard for meaningful discussions and learning activities.
What an exciting day at TLP. Thanks to the Tallahassee Fire Department for being with us!
The home plate huddle happened! Looking forward to a new year with so many new families and many of our returning kiddos going to new classrooms.

We cannot believe the K-12 school year is already here! We want to wish a very happy first day to all our kiddos' older siblings and those who graduated from our VPK program last year. We miss you but know you're off to great places.
Certain moments just make us smile… like giving our kiddos opportunities to become comfortable when speaking in public. DYK when presenting during show and tell, students are expected to talk about a variety of topics, organize their thoughts and convey main ideas, all of which are skills that they will use as an adult? It’s not just play, it’s .
The final days of summer may be fast approaching but we are still having fun learning while we play. Who are we kidding? That’s everyday - not just summer! Looking forward to sharing more with families during our open house on Friday, August 12, at 4 pm.
In case you missed this gem… A study in slime offers inquisitive minds all sorts of learning opportunities.

Sometimes the smiles on our kiddos make us stop and stare. Thank you to all of our parents for sharing the first years of your child’s life with us.
Capturing moments of our kiddos so focused on their own “play”makes our hearts soar. We give them ample options to engage and they make their own creative choices.
Parents: What type of curriculum do you use?
Us: Play is at the root of all we do here at TLP.
Us: Play is the defining feature of human development: the impulse is hardwired into us and can’t be suppressed. Further, it shouldn’t. Children learn best through first-hand experiences—play motivates, stimulates and supports children in their development of skills, concepts, language acquisition, communication skills, and concentration. That is why we embrace it.
Also us: Because science.
Headed to the beach this weekend?? Don’t forget to for TLP when you shop at Goodwill.
Happy Friday families!! Capturing moments like this make our jobs so rewarding. Here’s to lifelong friendships that start at TLP! 🎉🥳⭐️
Happy first day of summer! We are thinking about making water day every day. ☀️💦😍
Oh the benefits of outdoor play! We are feeling grateful for moments to play in the sun, rest in the shade, and learn while exploring the world around us.
Today, Ms. Kim joined other early childhood leaders to discuss the “Future Project,” an initiative by The Children's Movement of Florida to create an actionable roadmap for the future of early learning policy and funding in our state. Thanks to all our families for trusting your babies and kiddos with us so we can inform others about the innovative and best practices deployed at TLP!

DYK that providing young children opportunities to explore and question the nature world is integral to their academic and social success later in life? Science in early childhood is about providing experiences that can stimulate young children's curiosity and motivate them to become interested in their environment and in the mechanisms of nature. It’s never to early to learn!
From kindergarten prep activities to celebrating birthdays to in-school field trips to visits from furry friends, offers it all.
So proud to have Dillon featured by our “parent” organization!
For those who may not know, when you round up your purchase at Goodwill, you’re supporting The Learning Pavilion (TLP). TLP is one of the mission services we provide to enrich our local community, and is a smart-play preschool that aims to provide an inclusive environment that promotes growth and development for all children.
Here we share a story highlighting the progress and growth of Dillon, an incredible student of The Learning Pavilion. Read Dillon’s story: https://www.goodwillbigbend.org/making-a-difference-at-the-learning-pavilion/
Congratulations to the 35 students graduating from TLP today. Here’s to the future class of 2035!
Sometimes all you really need to do is grab a few friends and have a contest.
Just a quick shout out to two of our own representing at a community event discussing food security for families in Leon County. Technically, they were there as an Early Learning Leon partner to provide childcare assistance, but when the open conversation started in on barriers, our team shared not only their personal stories but also gave voice to the many concerns shared by the families we serve. Just another example of how we are so much more than just childcare.
This swing has been placed on the TLP grounds in loving memory of Bruce Harter. “How lucky [we are] to have something that makes thing goodbye so hard."
Our teachers have a knack at capturing some of the best moments. We all know that but so do life long friendships. ❤️
A baker, an artist, a horticulturist, a scientist… We are STEAMing up futures at TLP. What does your kiddo want to be?
Goodwill hosted their annual meeting this week and asked the question, “what is your why?” For us, it’s all about the kiddos and Pamela Sampson is a shining example of when someone matches their why with service. Congratulations 🎉 on this well deserved recognition as the TLP Employee of the Year. We think it’s the perfect way to wrap up week!
Balloons UP for ! Our kiddos love helping us celebrate.
Happy May families! week is happening Monday through Friday. Help us celebrate all that our teachers do by filling UP their buckets with goodies each day of the week.
The tree study continues with Corbet and Beth from Fielder Tree Service, LLC. We are in awe of the work that goes into maintaining the beautiful canopy of our community. Thank you for exposing our kiddos to this vital service and profession.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of founding board member and lifelong advocate for children with special needs, Mr. Bruce Harter.
Bruce was cherished for his inspiring antics and support for our teachers and for the mentorship he offered freely to our directors. He was instrumental in the creation of our organization as the Dick Howser Center, in securing a sustainable future by orchestrating a relationship with and acquisition by Goodwill Industries - Big Bend, Inc., and leading us through the transformation to become the smart-play center we are today, The Bruce Harter Learning Pavilion. He will be missed but his legacy indeed lives on in the countless children we have served in this community because of his dedication.
We are growing great things (and kiddos) here at TLP and modeling responsibility while we do it.
Remember when we asked you to support our book fair? Well… We are now basking in the bounty of your giving! Thank you to all of our friends and families who contributed to growing our classroom libraries.
Now our kiddos know that climbing trees could actually be a career! Thank you Arbor Pros Expert Tree Company for providing us with an on-site field trip for our tree study.
