Holiday guests. 2 litters from the same home. 2 kittens died before joining LCHS and both moms escaped on the way in. (Make sure you use a proper, sturdy carrier when transporting cats!)
Eye infections, diarrhea, flea infestations, and a couple are a bit spitty. This is why you spay & neuter. Even when trying to get these babies taken care of, there have already been at least 2 casualties, and these guys aren't out of the woods yet.
If you feed cats, fix them. Having a steady food source means a queen has more nutrients to spare and typically will have more babies. You're actively adding to overpopulation by feeding cats without getting them altered, despite your kind intentions.
And now, with limited foster homes and kennels, kittens like these, too young to be vaccinated, are either taking up an entire home or having to be housed near other cats. I'm cleaning and changing shirts between rooms and doing everything I can to keep them safe as well as my other fosters and personal cats. Wish me luck, wish them luck, and please: if you feed them, fix them.
If you need vouchers, thanks to the heroes at Be The Solution, Inc, you can find them at The Fix Thrift Shop, Supporting Be The Solution, Inc. and Leon County Humane Society

Hey, you! You, reading this status! Now is NOT the time to surrender your pets to a shelter (even though people will do it anyway). Now is the time to adopt, to foster, to network. It's not just our shelter that's full - all around the country the 5th of July is THE busiest day for animal shelters. Add that to summer being prime surrender season and you have a serious problem. (School breaks mean vacations and moving and warm weather means the births of myriad unwanted litters.) A shelter cannot thrive without community support. Please, go support your local shelter. Limited admission, kill shelter, overwhelmed rural shelter, or huge brand-new facility, it doesn't matter; they are all in this together and they all want to save as many lives as possible. They can only do so much on their own, but YOU can help.

"You say I'm the cutest puppy ever? Awww shucks." -the cutest dang puppy ever. And yes, of course this little Border Collie mix is a rescue. Something about being a scrappy shelter pup makes them even cuter.

The people behind ASF really help out our shelter on a daily basis, and I am so thankful for everything they do! They're always accepting donations and really put them to good use.

Cookie (spayed American Staffordshire Terrier mix). This little girl starts off timid, but before you know it she's a social butterfly. And she runs like The Flash!
