𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗶𝗻… “𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?” That’s what Dr. Allen Burch was thinking 17 years ago when he drove onto the Lincoln High School campus for the first time as its new principal. When he turned the corner and saw the school on his first day of work, he started wondering if he was really ready for what he had taken on.

He still makes that same turn today. And every once in a while, Dr. Burch thinks back to how he saw Lincoln as a beginning principal, and how different that same drive feels after all these years.

“𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲, 𝗜’𝗺 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.”

Maybe there’s something kind of fitting about that...especially this year. Dr. Burch once carried his three-month-old son onto the Lincoln campus. Today, his son is a senior at the same school where his dad has spent so many years as principal.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗻. His son will graduate, and Dr. Burch will retire. Not because he ever stopped thinking of it as home. He’s retiring after all those years of making that turn on Trojan Trail.

Congratulations to Rylee Gautney the 2026-27 Student School Board Member! Rylee is a senior at Leon High School and is going to be an amazing representative for our entire student body.

Today at Ft. Braden School, we kicked off the Rocky Reads tour on our road to reading 27 Million Minutes this year in Leon County Schools! The Pioneers have already read more than 50, 000 minutes with Ms. Medina's kindergarten class having read the most in the entire school. Our district crossed over 1.5 million minutes already. Keep up the great work developing a love for reading.
