This part of life scares me.

Going back through a few pictures from Night of Celebration. The hallways during the summer have kind of a loud silence. Just missing our people tonight.

Ace Robertson has battled anxiety for as long as he can remember. Then he found out his aunt was struggling with it too. So the 6th grader from Swift Creek Middle School sat down and wrote a book to help her fight back.

He calls anxiety “Mr. Bossy.”
“Mr. Bossy is mean, and he doesn’t tell the truth,” Ace told the Leon County School Board last night. “You have to tell Mr. Bossy no.”

What makes Ace’s story hit so hard is that he talks about anxiety the way a lot of kids actually experience it. The pressure. The thoughts. The feeling that your mind keeps pushing you around.

But instead of hiding from it, he turned it into something that could help somebody else. Not just himself. His aunt too. And maybe other kids or parents who don’t quite know how to talk about what they’re feeling.

Ace, thank you for what you did last night. You got up in front of a room full of adults and talked about something that many people are afraid to speak about. You have a lot of courage and you definitely left us with something to think about.
