Spring Break is almost here! The AML will have some adjusted hours this weekend going into next week. We hope you get lots of rest and sun!

We honor the life and legacy of Dan Clark, former head of the Allen Music Library at the FSU College of Music.

A dedicated music librarian and advocate for the independence of the Allen Music Library, Dan’s work strengthened resources for generations of students and scholars. He will be remembered for his leadership, musicianship, and commitment to the field of music.

We’re calling this latest library chaos The HVAC Havoc of 2026. University facilities folks were fixing an issue with our HVAC line upstairs. During the fix, a drain plug burst and spewed moldy, rusty water over a large portion of the West Alcove stacks, damaging about 1900 library books and scores. The Music Library staff quickly removed the affected items onto book carts, while facilities contacted their administrator and a restoration company. Now begins a long process of sorting, cleaning, and in some cases withdrawing affected materials.

Belfor, the restoration company, will be set up over the next week or so in the display area near the circulation desk. They will also be taking some of our materials to their facility for more rigorous treatment, which could take up to nine months. All of this to prevent the spread of mold on the affected materials and in our broader collections. Thank you for your patience as we sort all of this out and please don’t hesitate to contact us about access to any of the affected materials (we can’t give you these specific items, but we can find different access!)
