Yesterday, Assistant Dean Alishia Piotrowski presented the 2026 Iris D. Larson Scholarship Award to three hospitality students at the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism in West Palm Beach, FL.

This year’s recipients are:

Sienna Duran, a junior at Florida State University

Lindsey Morrell, a junior at Florida International University

Destiny Ruiz, a senior at the University of Central Florida

Created by Bob and Iris Larson, the scholarship recognizes students who lead through service and demonstrate a genuine commitment to the hospitality industry. Each recipient received approximately $2,000 toward tuition and fees.

This year’s presentation also honored the memory of Iris Larson, who passed away Aug. 28 at age 98. Iris and her husband, Bob, helped shape tourism in Central Florida and created this scholarship to support the people who would shape its future.

A little Disney magic came to Dedman yesterday ✨

Students learned how the Disney College Program offers a unique living and working experience with participants from around the world. They also built their interview skills and explored ways to gain on-the-job experience while preparing for their future.

This summer, our students planned events at a Montana ranch, worked in member services at Yellowstone Club, led recreation programs in Vermont and rotated through departments at a Scottsdale resort. Others studied food and w**e in Florence and adventure tourism in New Zealand.

It was great to see students connecting with Dedman Student Organizations, discovering Dedman Destinations, and exploring resources from the libraries. We hope everyone received a warm welcome to Dedman, and we appreciate all who helped make this event such a success!

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when students enter new professional environments and learn directly from the people working in them. These experiences offer a clearer understanding of the industry and the kind of leaders they want to become.

For Madeline Pyles, hospitality connects her love of travel with her desire to create better travel experiences for others. This summer, she explored that interest through a 12-week internship with Driftwood Hospitality Management at The Scottsdale Resort & Spa.

All Access Foodies and the FSU Dedman College of Hospitality are teaming up for something fun and unique, a moment that is all our own! Tallahassee Foodies is launching "The Culinary Club" in collaboration with the talented team behind FSU’s fabled Little Dinner Series.

Art Club. Robotics Club. Yearbook Club. And now, our very own Culinary Club - where hospitality students, talented chefs, and All Access Foodies culinary enthusiasts come together as Tallahassee’s wonderfully nerdy food crew.

Our first dinner will be a themed evening inspired by the Little Dinner Series, but with a couple of fun new twists: we’ll gather in a more intimate setting featuring our signature “long table” community experience, AND All Access Foodies supporters will be the client, choosing the theme as we direct our own culinary adventure!

Our first ever Culinary Club experience will take place September 25 and will be exclusively for All Access Foodies supporters - seating is very limited.
