In a recent CBS News article, Amy Baco-Taylor, a professor in the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science, discusses the significance of a groundbreaking discovery β the world's largest whale graveyard.
Located at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, the area is home to fossils up to 5.3 million years old, and one previously unknown extinct species of whale was identified. Also, the site is illuminating scientists' understanding of sea life like jellyfish, brittle stars, bone-boring worms, and more that thrive despite harsh ocean floor conditions.
