Q. How long is the School Choice window open?
A. School Choice opened on January 5 and will close on March 1 at 5 p.m.
**This is not a first-come, first-served process. Applications will be processed after the March 1st deadline.**

Q. Where is the School Choice Application?
A. The School Choice Application is in your FOCUS Parent Portal, not on the School Choice website. You have to completely fill out the FOCUS Parent Portal registration if you have not done so already. Click on the FOCUS Parent Portal Registration here: https://leon.focusschoolsoftware.com/focus/auth/

Q. Which digital device and browser do I need to use to fill out the application?
A. We highly recommend Google Chrome or Firefox and using a laptop / Chromebook or desktop to complete the registration and application process. Please let your school or the School Choice office know if you need access to a device.

Q. What do I do once I am in my FOCUS Parent Portal?
A. Once you are in your portal, select the student that you want to apply for School Choice. Next, select "School Choice Application." Once you are in the application you will see the first section with your name and address info.

Q. I don't understand the second section. What should I select?
A. The second section is 6 boxes. If none of these 6 boxes apply to you scroll past them. You do not have to select one of these six boxes to complete and submit your application. You may scroll down and select your requested schools. You may select up to three schools. We encourage you to select three schools to have options in case your first choice is not approved.

Q. How do I know if I have successfully submitted the application? Will I receive an email?
A. Yes, you will receive an email. You can make sure it was saved/submitted by accessing the application in your parent portal, and also make any changes to it before 5 p.m. on March 1.

Q. Do all schools have a lottery?
A. Schools that we receive more requests than they have seats available will have a lottery.

Q. Do I need to apply again if my student is already on School Choice now?
A. No, you ONLY apply if you wish to change schools tor the next school year / 2022-2023 school year.

Q. What do I do if my student is in VPK, 5th or 8th grade?
A. Your student will automatically be assigned to your home zone school next year. NOW is the time to apply for school choice to attend a school next year that is not your home zone school.

Q. What is my zoned school?
A. You are zoned by your home address. You can visit our website at www.leonschools.net and click on School Zones at the top.

Q. When will I know if my student was approved?
A. Everyone will have the outcome in their Focus Parent Portal no later than March 28.

Q. What do I do if my student is approved?
A. If your student is approved, you must accept their approval in the FOCUS Parent Portal in order to complete the process of being enrolled in that school.

Update from the Leon County Schools School Choice office:

🍎Every parent has been notified of their student's School Choice status in the FOCUS Parent Portal.

🍎The 2021 - 2022 School Choice lottery was completed on Monday, March 22. If your child was randomly selected for a lottery seat, they have a pending acceptance in their FOCUS Parent Portal that needs to be approved. Students who were not randomly selected for a seat after the completion of the lottery process will show as canceled (denied) for their choices by the system.

Pending Acceptance = Approved, their application was randomly selected by the lottery (but they must accept the approval in the parent portal by Friday, April 9, 2021).

Canceled = Denied, unfortunately, their application was not randomly selected by the lottery.

🍎Approvals need to be submitted by Friday, April 9, 2021.
