Team Spotlight: Love Building Custodial Services🌟

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Corpus, Keisha, and Robyn, our custodial team serving the Love Building!

Their hard work and dedication don’t go unnoticed. Gina Fort, Business Manager for the FSU Department of Mathematics, recently took the time to recognize the team for being helpful, responsive, and proactive in keeping the building clean, welcoming, and ready for students, faculty, and staff every day. The team works closely with the department to schedule floor cleaning and waxing around classes and events — even taking extra consideration for those who are sensitive to the smell of wet wax.

Maintaining a large facility with a team of three is no small task, but they continue to work hard to keep classrooms, restrooms, and common areas in great shape.

Thank you, Corpus, Keisha, and Robyn, for everything you do! Your dedication makes a difference across the Love Building, and we’re grateful to have you on the FSU Facilities team.

Shoutout to Jacob Youngblood, Director of Athletic Grounds, for being a Community Waste Station Champion!

Community Waste Station Champions are FSU employees who don’t use a personal waste bin in their office and instead bring their waste to a shared community station. Why does that matter?

🗑️ Better sorting: Taking waste to a centralized station makes it easier to separate trash and recycling, helping prevent recyclables from being thrown away or contaminated.
♻️ Less plastic: Fewer individual office bins means fewer plastic liners and bags being used. 🧹 More efficient custodial service: Without individual bins to empty, our custodial team can spend more time focusing their efforts where they’re needed across campus.

Thanks, Jacob, for being part of the solution and showing how one simple change can make a difference across FSU!

Did you know? This shrub growing along the brick walkway next to the Askew Student Life Center is a Florida native called American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana).

Its small, light lavender flowers attract bees and butterflies, while the bright purple berries that begin appearing around September provide food for birds. Even while the berries are developing, you may still spot a few of its delicate flowers in bloom!

The 2026 University Housing survey shows continued improvements in students’ residential experience, from cleanliness and repair response times to overall satisfaction.

But behind every clean hallway, completed repair, and welcoming space are the Facilities employees who make it happen. Students shared heartfelt recognition for custodial and maintenance staff, highlighting their kindness, hard work, responsiveness, and the personal connections they build along the way.

Happy from our native Mound Lily Yucca (Yucca gloriosa) is putting on a show near Doak Campbell Stadium! FSU’s campus is home to all three of Florida’s native yucca species: Mound Lily, Adam’s Needle, and Spanish Bayonet.

Mound Lily Yucca is especially well-suited to Florida landscapes—it’s drought tolerant and thrives in both sun and partial shade. 🌱

Keep an eye out for all three around campus!

FSU Facilities Custodial ITN Wins Florida TaxWatch Government Productivity Award!

The team was recognized for “Beyond the Bid: Transforming Custodial Solutions for FSU’s Off-Campus Facilities,” an innovative approach to providing custodial services for 33 off-campus buildings with unique needs, including laboratories, medical offices, studios, and production spaces.

By rethinking the traditional custodial procurement model, the project is expected to save $485,000 annually for the first five years and up to $3.6 million over nine years, all while continuing to provide high-quality service to the university community.

This award recognizes the team’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and responsible stewardship of university resources.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this well-deserved recognition! 👏
