Keller Kids Event β Tuscumbia, AL β June 26, 2025
The Keller Kids event in Tuscumbia, Alabama, was a great success! Children participated in a variety of hands-on activities designed to increase awareness and understanding of vision impairment.
Students had the opportunity to explore braille using Perkins braillers, learning how to braille letters, numbers, their own names, and even phone numbers. Through tactile discovery, they also learned the braille alphabet and used LEGO Braille Bricks to build their skills.
To deepen their understanding, the CATT team introduced simulation glasses, allowing students to experience life with vision impairment. While wearing the glasses, they colored a picture of Helen Keller, honoring Tuscumbiaβs most famous resident.
The event also included instruction in basic human guide techniques and orientation and mobility (O&M) skills, including safe cane use.
