There's information in the stickers on your fruit that you might like to know:

A PLU with four numbers means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. The last four letters of the PLU code indicate what kind of vegetable or fruit you’re buying.
For example, all bananas are labeled with the code of 4011

A PLU code that starts with "8" and has a total of five numbers indicates an item that is genetically modified.
A genetically engineered (GE or GMO) banana would be: 84011

A PLU code that starts with “9” indicates that the item was grown organically and is not genetically modified.
An organic banana would be: 94011
