The symbol for Dyslexia was created in 2013 by Rebecca Warner, co-founder of Decoding Dyslexia Virginia, the design features four small circle loops (representing the stems and shapes of p, q, b, and d) grouped inside a larger circular boundary.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding, strengthen support, and recognize the importance of highly trained professionals in the lives of individuals with dyslexia.

For 40 years, the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) has served as the nation’s oldest credentialing organization dedicated to certifying professionals who provide evidence-based intervention for individuals with dyslexia and related written language disorders.

ALTA-certified professionals complete rigorous coursework, supervised clinical training, and certification requirements designed to prepare them to provide comprehensive, structured intervention grounded in the science of reading.

This Dyslexia Awareness Month, we celebrate the professionals committed to this work and the students, families, and communities they serve.
