What was thought to be a championship ring ceremony for the Taft Union High School varsity soccer team turned into a surprise trip to the FIFA World Cup.

On Monday, Taft Union High School players gathered expecting to celebrate their CIF championship season by receiving rings. Instead, the team learned they and their coaches would be heading to Los Angeles to attend a World Cup match thanks to California Resources Corporation.

The team will attend the June 15 match between Iran and New Zealand.

Today at the California State Diving Championships, Rylie Pendergrass completed an incredible high school diving career. Rylie is a three time State qualifier and competitor, becoming the first diver in Taft High history to achieve this accomplishment.
Rylie also made history by earning top finishes in both the SSL and D2 Central Section Valley Championships throughout her outstanding career at Taft High. Her work ethic, dedication, and commitment to the sport have made her one of the most accomplished athletes our dive program has seen.
Rylie will continue her diving career at the University of Wyoming with the Wyoming Cowboys, and we are so excited to see all that the future holds for her. As coaches, Steve and I are incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished and the athlete and person she has become over the last four years.
Please join us in congratulating and wishing Rylie the very best as she begins this next chapter.
