St. Luke's Preschool Tacoma Welcome to St. Luke's Preschool! We offer a Christian-based, developmentally appropriate preschool program for children ages 2 1/2-5 years.

St Luke's is organized, administered and operated by a professional staff working under the guidance of St. Luke's Memorial Episcopal Church. Our classes offer age-appropriate learning experiences which center around our love for children.

We’re back! Our school year prep has begun. We have some new faces to introduce - that will come soon! This week, we are connecting together, learning together, and preparing to welcome our students and families in September. 😍

Inspired by the colors of birds in the PNW, our friend decided to explore the paints by making HAND PRINTS!

We love this kind of material exploration in our classrooms!

Often around February / March you’ll see bird units popping up at St. Luke’s - because we are starting to see so many birds outside! It also connects us to our broader community through taking the opportunity to participate in the great backyard bird hunt!

According to the Institute of Child Development. Instead of taking 400 repetitions with traditional teaching methods, guided play-based methods generally take 10-20 for children to retain new information and skills!

THIS is the power of guided play-based learning. In the Reggio approach, educators are Co-Researchers and Guides. We hold a Co-Learner disposition which leads us to lean in with curiosity WITH children. We observe and document, then reflect on what we see and know about the context of our class and community, and lastly plan curriculum that is relevant that hits all the learning standards we need in a open-ended, process-based way. This cycle is how we create curriculum throughout the year!

Sound like a good fit? We still have openings in our 1’s and 3’s classes for the fall!

2027-26 school year teacher prep is coming up soon! Teacher Amanda and Miss Deborah met today to prepare a training on the Reggio Approach - one of our “3 Pillars” here at SLP. They had so much fun just planning it, it’s going to be even more fun diving in as a whole staff soon!
